THE OPPORTUNITY
The Product Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations for Magic: The Gathering Online as we deliver the most comprehensive digital Magic: The Gathering experience to our most passionate players in the Production Department at Washington reporting to the Senior Technology Producer, this position will be responsible for:
- Help define the product vision, strategy, and business model
- Pull and utilize data to design and manage player engagement experiences and the in-game economy
- Identify and enumerate player needs and translate them into feature/experience requests, including defining vision, goals, requirements, and success metrics
- Deliberately balance the needs of the players, the studio, and the business using data-informed decisions
- Collaborate with communications and marketing teams to plan and deliver public announcements and conversations
- Work with the Executive Producer and Senior Producer to manage and prioritize the production backlog
- Work with Wizards R&D to establish requirements for all Magic Online card set releases
- Help build and deliver successful card set releases using a variety of tools
- Troubleshoot issues with the team to support Magic Online as a live service
- Represent the voice and the face of the game internally at the company, and externally to players
Other Criteria
Requirements
- A successful candidate will have a strong mix of innovative, technical, managerial, and leadership experience from the live services gaming space
- College Degree or equivalent product management experience
- Comfortable with the SDLC and agile development practices
- Demonstrable experience as a Product Manager, delivering regular features and updates for live service games, software-as-a-service teams, or equivalent
- Experience translating player needs into defined product features with goals, requirements, and success metrics
- Demonstrable experience in problem solving and issue management skills, including managing service outages in real time, any time, day or night
- Expert communication, writing, and presentation skills, especially in a remote environment
- Negotiation, change management, and conflict resolution skills
- Experience in data analytics and statistics
- Able to work comfortably in a fully remote environment and on the computer or phone for extended periods of time
Knowledge, Abilities and Characteristics
- Self-driven, high-initiative individual who leads by example and utilizes collaboration to determine the most optimal outcomes
- Extensive soft skills for dealing with the demanding circumstances of a live service game
- Experience with digital game economies and engagement drivers, particularly TCGs and CCGs
- Ability to interact with gaming communities to understand trends and apply them to business initiatives
- Understanding of software development frameworks, including experience in requirements gathering
- Ability to personally craft summaries and pitches for a variety of initiatives and customers
- Skill at managing difficult communication situations with executives, partners, and the team at large
- Basic data analysis, financial analysis, and marketing experience highly desired
Travel Requirements
- May require 2-4 trips per year to attend conferences or meet with partners
