Product Manager, Games
At Improbable, we believe that the next revolution in entertainment and society will come from massive virtual worlds. They will create new economies and opportunities globally, changing not just how we play, but how we work and relate to each other. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to build the next generation of technologies for online multi-user games and simulations.
At Improbable, you are surrounded by people who want to improve everything and everyone around them, and who compel you to improve yourself. We’re motivated by the fulfilment of solving hard problems to achieve something profound and transformative.
Your Mission
Improbable has created SpatialOS Networking: a networking solution for distributed computation that combines tools for faster iteration with a scalable simulation architecture capable of supporting a new generation of innovative multiplayer games.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for the product direction of one or more of these members of the SpatialOS Networking family. You’ll define the roadmap, grow the product and, in conjunction with our partner games, demonstrate SpatialOS Networking’s ability to empower developers in creating innovative games of unprecedented scale.
SpatialOS Networking is a close family of products, consisting of:
- The core distributed compute technology
- Our high performance networking solution with SDKs and associated bespoke engine integrations
- Common tooling such as for visualising and interacting with SpatialOS Networking simulations
- the Game Development Kit (GDK) for Unreal
- the Game Development Kit (GDK) for Unity
Areas for Impact
- Take responsibility for product planning and direction across one or more products relating to SpatialOS Networking.
- Work with customers to help them understand our product capabilities and roadmap, and ultimately see that they’re successful and happy using our technology.
- Identify and ensure alignment with customer needs, both internal and external. Use your insight to guide prioritisation and ensure we work on the right things.
- Be accountable for the tough decisions needed to define scope and sequencing.
- Build first hand familiarity with your products, then use your understanding of the domain and your creativity to suggest improvements.
- Align the roadmap of your products with overall business objectives and ensure your product represents a value-adding component of the business in its own right.
- Frame the capabilities and value propositions of your product for effective sales, and help build the commercial narrative.
- Inspire the teams you work with, keeping them motivated and clear on required outcomes.
We'd like to hear from you if you identify with the following:
- You have previous experience coding, ideally in C++.
- You’re interested in game and game engine development, ideally with Unreal Engine or similar.
- You enjoy hands on, technical creativity and are inspired with ways to improve the form and function of the tools you work with.
- You have experience of working as a product manager for highly technical or game related projects.
- Perhaps you have experience of working in a senior development role in the games industry.
- You have lead group projects or have been responsible for setting the direction for features or products.
- You’re a clear communicator and a natural collaborator who finds it rewarding to build alignment around change and cut through uncertainty.
- You have experience of working with customers to understand their needs. These needn’t be paying customers in a formal sense; perhaps you’ve worked with designers, or artists, or any users of the ‘product’ you’ve been building.
- You’ve worked with sales, marketing, or maybe community teams to plan and consider the impact of changes to the projects you’ve worked on.
- You’re accustomed to influencing business objectives, and considering the financial implications of development options.
While we think the above experience could be important, we’re keen to hear from people that believe they have valuable experience to bring to the role. If you identify with the team and mission, but not all of our requirements, then please still apply!!
