Product Designer

Velan Studios is an independent studio comprised of a passionate and diverse team of experienced developers. We are the creators behind Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit and Knockout City. Velan Studios’ mission is to create ground-breaking game experiences centered on new forms of play across both existing and emerging platforms. Velan Studios maintains a team of both remote and on-site employees. On-site employees work from our office in Troy, NY.

We are seeking an experienced Product Designer who will support and create the UX of the User Interface in addition to 2D assets and animation which will be created for the in-game world. The Production Designer will work with the Art Director and Developers directly to create polished, visually engaging assets and uses in-house tools to implement and animate UI.

Responsibilities

• Leading the team on the UI/UX of the product and pushing for a polished user experience.
• Responsible for creating easy to read concepts and taking them through to final polished 2D assets.
• Being able to innovate and develop low fidelity as well as high fidelity interface mockups, wireframes and prototypes with little assistance.
• Create high quality in-game UI artwork (components including - icons, logos, HUD elements, etc.) and partner with the AD to match the team’s style
• Create motion graphic transitions and visual elements that bring the design to life.
• Contribute to peer reviews, troubleshoot, problem solve, and give and receive constructive feedback.

Requirements

• 5+ years of mobile and/or game industry experience in a UX position
• Degree or equivalent experience in Digital Media Design, Game Design, Illustration, or related field is desired.
• Strong portfolio of shipped mobile games or other website or software products.
• Excellent conceptual, UX, and graphic design skills.
• A strong understanding in user flows, user patterns and funnel analyses.
• Demonstrate good use of typography, iconography, composition, color theory, and motion graphics.
• Understand flow, composition, and design as they relate to the user experience.
• High level of proficiency with Photoshop and Illustrator is a must.
• Strong organizational skills with adherence to optimization and asset management.
