Counsel, Privacy & Transactional

KRAFTON, Inc. is a collective of independent game development teams responsible for various entertainment properties, including PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS, ELYON, and TERA. KRAFTON currently consists of PUBG Studio, Striking Distance Studios, Bluehole Studio, and RisingWings. KRAFTON is rapidly growing and seeking a Counsel who will be full-time in Los Angeles or the Bay Area, California. As Legal Counsel, you will be part of a fast-growing legal department and will report directly to the Head of Global Legal.

Privacy/Regulatory/Commercial Transactions Attorney

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with other members of the privacy team to help build, shape, and enhance the company’s global privacy/regulatory compliance program
• Advise on the legal aspects of all phases of a global data privacy program (e.g., assessments, record keeping, policies and notices, contracts, DSARs, security incident preparation and response, etc.)
• Provide advice to cross-functional teams consistent with privacy-by-design principles
• Provide domestic and international regulatory advice and support to the company’s business and compliance teams on issues related to gaming
• Research regulatory topics to evaluate and mitigate legal risk
• Draft, negotiate, advise, and review commercial agreements including: services, marketing, publishing, licensing, technology and data privacy-related agreements, etc.
• Provide hands-on counsel to all levels of the organization and manage the operations of the legal department globally
• Ensure that company communications, contracts, documents, filings and press releases undergo legal review
• Review changes to law and regulations and advise regarding any impact to the business
• Engage and coordinate with outside counsel as well as the legal team in HQ in Seoul for certain matters
• Other relevant legal duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctorate from a top accredited law school
• Admission to the California Bar
• 5-10 years of experience in a major law firm or in a gaming company
• 2+ years of experience focused on issues related to privacy, data protection or related regulatory matters
• IAPP certification preferred (e.g., CIPP/US /E /A, CIPM or CIPT)
• Strong knowledge of privacy and related regulatory issues related to evolving technology, such as AI processing, e-commerce, location-based services and online advertising
• Knowledge of Korean a plus, but not required
• Must have a sense of humor and interest in gaming
• Strong sense of customer support and excellent interpersonal/communication skills
• Team player, analytical, detail-oriented, organized, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
