Our Incubation Team focuses on prototyping new ideas, new game concepts, new franchises, and the incubation of new studios with the ambitious vision to create genre defining games for the next generation of players. This is one of those unique opportunities that only happen once in a lifetime.
The Role
One of our unannounced game teams is searching for a Principal Technical Designer to define how our designers work in-engine, work with engineering to make it better, and implement unusually challenging features.
Who You Are
- You have world-class expertise at using & improving 'AAA' designer in-engine tools in Unreal Engine
- You have a long history of successfully building healthy bridges between engineering and design
- You have exceptional game design fundamentals and can debug & fix a wide range of player experience issues
- You have strong engineering fundamentals and can speak well to what makes good technology best practices
- You are fiercely passionate about games and what they mean to our players
- You are passionate advocate for our 'technical health'; keeping content in standard, check-ins clean, tech debt low, documentation current, and depot tidy.
- You see 'people' in every choice, be the user experience of tools, how it will make our players feel, or how your words will affect a teammate
- You work hard to disconfirm your own assumptions and take extra time to understand views you do not understand or disagree with
What You Will Do
- Define & iterate on a future-facing 'AAA' toolset for a new team working on a new IP
- Get in-engine and make player experiences!
- Create best practices for how design should be using its toolset and make it easy to ramp up on them
- Write documentation for engineering for new tools or tool improvements
- Playtest daily and give reliably insightful notes
- Experiment with new tools & techniques to see if they are good additions to the design team's toolset
- Research design tools across different teams and keep up with what is state-of-the-art
Qualifications
- 6+ years in a technical design or design tools role, or equivalent
- Extensive Unreal Engine experience
