Your mission
As the Principal Systems Engineer you will lead the requirements elicitation and documentation, solution creation, outside technology selection, and guide the delivery of synthetic based solutions across a wide range of defence applications.
As our defence business continues to grow in scale and complexity, this new role will be responsible for ensuring that Improbable Defence has effective interactions with our customers and partners, can create innovative solutions that exceed expectations and has clear technical direction for compliant and high quality solution delivery.
Our delivery capability is a priority area of growth over the next 3 years, and strong technical leadership with a deep understanding of our military and government customers will be key to guiding this team to success.

Areas for impact
- Understanding our military customer, including their needs and current solution ecosystem, and driving that knowledge across the division;
- Partner with the PMO, engineering and product functions internally to understand the best approach to solution delivery;
- Maintains deep understanding of our platform technologies and tooling capabilities; specifically in regards to how they integrate and enable partner solutions;
- Support definition and implement processes and ways of working to support our customers and partners alongside our PMO;
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to lead large (50+) engineering teams;
- Excellent communication and good problem solving skills;
- Capable of working autonomously and proactively;
- Communicate customer feedback data to product and engineering teams;
- Please note due to the nature of this role you will be expected to meet requirements associated with obtaining UK security vetting clearance.
We'd love to hear from you if you identify with the following:
- Up to date knowledge of issues in relevant specialist area(s) e.g. simulation/synthetics, military practices for decisions support and/or collective training, mechanical, electrical, software, User Experience (UX), Human Factors (HF), control and analysis;
- Mastery of the complete development, deployment, and sustainment life-cycle, with a keen understanding of risk areas and mitigation tactics;
- Strong experience creating architectures for complex multiple disciplinary and distributed solutions;
- Easily engages with experienced and demanding stakeholders to create holistic system designs that deliver high value and stay true to our mission;
- Calm under pressure; being able to deal with multiple risks, issues, tasks and priorities concurrently;
- Able to lead in the identification of technical enablers across industry, with a strong understanding of what is available in the defence or government resilience space;
- Confident in leading the development of the system validation plans and ensuring our solutions meet the design specifications and requirements;
- Current or recent UK security vetting clearance (SC) is advantageous but not mandatory.
