What We Need:
Do you love the technical and tactical challenges that come with delivering a complex project that will be used (played!) by millions? Our Austin studio is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to contribute to the next iteration of the beloved and award-winning NBA 2K.
What You Will Do:
- Develop for the NBA2K franchise on the Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, and Xbox One
- Implement new gameplay features across a diverse codebase
- Provide scheduling input and status updates for completion of assigned tasks, gather updates from the team, and plan/assign work ahead
- Write clean, robust, readable, well-documented, and efficient code that can be easily understood; be a team player that can tackle code and suggestions coming from other team members
- Demonstrate the assignment & technology flexibility required to assist adjacent teams in an agile team environment, and contribute as a leader to the processes
- Plans and completes assignments with little direction from leadership while providing direction to other team members
- Contribute to building the team by participating in the recruiting process, leading interviews, and guiding hiring decisions
- Supports and develops software engineers by providing advice, coaching, and mentorship
- Stays current with the latest trends in gaming technology, including AI, graphics, network communications, and game engines
- When needed, assumes a tech lead role for game components, including system responsibility and technical leadership of other engineers
- Leads a group of engineers in their tasking in support of your assigned projects
- My directly or functionally manage a small engineering team
- Collaborate with technical leaders across multiple VC studios for major features and changes
Who Will Be a Great Fit:
- 10+ years of technical professional work experience
- Experience developing AAA games, leading development of major features, components, or systems
- Expertise designing data structures and algorithms
- Expertise with a broad range of platforms and programming languages, especially C++
- Expertise with Object Oriented programming techniques and robust engineering practices
- Expertise utilizing and adapting software development patterns
- Expertise with 3D math
- Expertise using common development tools (e.g., Visual Studio, Git, Jira, Perforce)
- Experience delivering recent generation console games
- Expertise mentoring and leading other engineers
- Expertise delivering recent generation console games
- Expertise with graphics programming
- Game engine expertise and customization experience (Unity 3D, Unreal Engine, Etc...)
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
- Expertise with multithreaded and asynchronous programming
