The Magic: The Gathering Arena team is looking for a hardworking, inspirational, and experienced Principal Software Engineer to join our Infrastructure & Tools team in bringing Magic: The Gathering to life.
- Work with other high-talent, high-experience developers that share your passions.
- Mentor and educate team members in how best to architect and implement clients and tools in support of live service online gaming platforms.
- Think creatively to find sophisticated solutions to engaging problems across a wide range of subject areas.
What You'll Do:
- Drive quality, extensible, architecture that scales, is efficient to operate, and resilient enough for the challenges of live game operations.
- Apply your experience and Unity expertise to analyze and champion improvements of our team processes, standards, and workflows.
- Work within and outside of Unity to design and build flexible systems and tools to support both our players and our development staff.
- Monitor and architect client performance to deliver a smooth experience for our players.
What You’ll Bring:
- 10 years experience crafting video game technology.
- 5 years experience as a principal engineer or senior engineer.
- 5 years experience making games using Unity.
- Extensive experience writing software in C#.
- Experience architecting and building live service multiplayer games that frequently deploy new features.
- A strong understanding of Unity best practices, and the pragmatism to know when to apply them.
- The genuine enjoyment of working with others.
- A motivated individual with experience creating and playing live service games, and a preference towards prioritizing teamwork in order to achieve success.
- Communicates well, loves documentation, and does not hesitate to initiate dialog with the relevant partners.
- A passion for mentoring, guiding, and inspiring teams of engineers.
- Willingness to help troubleshoot and resolve technical problems as they arise.
- Experience working with other engineering and product teams to integrate multiple service technologies.
- Familiarity with multiple programming languages (C#, Java, Kotlin).
- Familiarity with profiling CPU/GPU/memory overhead across platforms.

$145,704 — $235,208 USD
