Scopely is looking for a Principal Server Engineer to join our new unannounced project in Spain on a hybrid/remote basis. We can support with visa sponsorship and relocation assistance.

What You Will Do
- The Principal Backend Software Engineer will lead the effort to optimize and refactor our backend services, focusing on improving performance, scalability, and maintainability. This role requires deep expertise in software architecture, performance tuning, and a strategic vision for enhancing internal code quality and efficiency.
- Work as part of a team responsible for overall backend performance
- Mentor members of the team as well as backend software engineers on other teams on code optimization and performance improvements
- Analyze and identify performance bottlenecks in the existing codebase as well as future implementations, and propose optimization strategies
- Refactor and optimize internal code to improve efficiency, scalability, and maintainability
- Collaborate with other engineering teams to ensure cohesive and scalable backend architecture
- Develop and enforce best practices for code quality, and emphasize performance and scalability in a distributed architecture
- Conduct regular code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies to continually enhance backend performance
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in developing highly available back-end systems and servers for large-scale MMO games, high-traffic web systems or applications
- Experienced with Go, Python and C++.
- Expertise in backend engineering with a focus on performance optimization.
- Deep understanding of microservices architecture, cloud-native development, and container orchestration
- Highly experienced with performance profiling, benchmarking, and optimisation techniques
- Problem-solving skills and ability to lead complex projects
- High leadership skills, with experience mentoring junior and peer engineers
