THE ROLE
Firewalk team is looking for a Principal Generalist Engineer who loves games and is eager to bring exceptional entertainment to millions of players. We are building a next generation multiplayer game, and you will be responsible for helping architect and build core technologies and tools.
WHO YOU ARE
- You help ensure a stable development environment and a high bar for code quality, including pushing the boundaries of what our code is capable of.
- You have strong interpersonal and development skills as you will collaborate with other engineers and disciplines.
- You believe that technical passion and common decency can and should exist harmoniously. You strive to model this every day, using clear, direct, and kind communication, both verbal and written.
- You are interested in contributing to various disciplines within game development and enjoy contributing to them.
- You are interested in offering your expertise in various areas of the game – both in advisory and contributor capacity.
- You have experience and understanding of common game development techniques that are common between various game engines.
- You are excited about learning new technologies and practices.
- You have a high level of proficiency in one or more of the following platforms: UE4/C++ or a proprietary game engine.
- Experience working in an online / multiplayer environment on at least one AAA title is a plus.
- Experience in helping strategize, optimize the game development pipeline – helping developers create, iterate fast.
- You understand and enjoy the nuances of discipline workflows, automation and content delivery processes.
- Experience developing for both PC and console is a plus.
WHAT YOUR DAY MIGHT LOOK LIKE
- Craft pragmatic, reliable shipping code, workflow tools by collaborating with your peers in engineering, gameplay, narrative, and audio design.
- Work as a part of the Core Technology team, along with the Core Tech Lead Engineer, focusing on core engine, editor, tools and workflow related tasks and features.
- Take ownership of key features that can help improve the efficiency of the workflow, integration with 3rd party software or runtime performance aspects of our game.
- Use social skills to communicate with development and leadership teams on tradeoffs of different code solutions, possible solutions for impossible goals, and how to limit and reduce risks.
- Contribute to an evolving game code architecture.
- Bring passion for helping our team do amazing things.
- Participate in daily playtests to see how the game is playing and experience how your work is affecting the product.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in games building systems related to core engine technology, workflow tools, networked services and key infrastructure that was deployed at scale.
- Have been one of the primary contributors to one or more of the following disciplines throughout development cycles of two shipped games.
- Tools and Workflow
- Build Engineering
- Core Engine programming
- Ability to identify inefficiencies in workflow iteration and proactively propose/implement solutions.
- Experience implementing features that are cross-disciplinary in nature.
- Ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new code and technologies and extend it.
