Principal Game Designer

Proletariat is looking for a talented and experienced game designer to join our team. Principal Game Designers are multi-talented and experienced game designers with the ability to adapt to a wide variety of content or systems design. They take responsibility for realizing our studio design philosophies, helping the creative director maintain the team’s focus on project pillars, guiding and mentoring more junior designers, and keeping an eye on the cutting-edge of our industry to communicate new opportunities to the team.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience in game design, a strong aptitude for critical thinking and analysis, outstanding people skills, boundless creativity, a strong visual aesthetic, extensive knowledge of online multiplayer and service-based products, and an abiding passion for playing games.
Responsibilities :
- Collaborate with the Executive Director of Game Design in leading the Design discipline, setting vision and strategy.
- Oversee design processes and ensure a high level of quality in Proletariat's games
- Champion best practices and facilitate collaboration between Design and other departments
- Advise project leadership and discuss key product and design decisions
- Support the growth of colleagues through mentoring and knowledge-sharing opportunities
- Create and maintain an inclusive, collaborative, and healthy company and product culture
- Design systems and mechanics that are aimed at keeping players engaged and entertained
- Work cross functionally with other designers, artists, engineers and other developers to ensure design features are cohesive with the rest of the game from concept to live-ops
- Iterate/balance mechanics based on feedback from players and product teams
- Create strong design documentation that can be utilized and understood by all disciplines to understand or teach others on features/mechanics/systems
Requirements:
- A minimum of 8 years' game design experience required
- Previous experience as a senior or lead designer on a shipped product
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Extensive content and systems design experience. Ideally, someone who has creatively owned complete implementations from concept to delivery
- Experience with in-engine prototyping via visual scripting, scripting languages (e.g. Lua, UnrealScript), or C++
- Interest and skill in mentoring junior designers
- Experience with version control software, such as Perforce
- Ability to take high level strategy or complex ideas and translate them into actionable tasks
- Ability to take feedback and criticism while working in an inclusive, collaborative environment
- Strong organizational skills; ability to hold self accountable to deadlines while keeping track of minute details as well as the big picture objectives
- Strong documentation skills including design proposals and game design documents
Pluses:
- Familiarity with level design and level blockouts
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Management experience
- Previous experience launching or working on massively multiplayer games preferred
- Passion for playing and making games
