Principal/Director of Product Manager - Engine Systems
1 year ago
Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.
At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.
A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.
The Engine forms the heart of Roblox: it’s the platform everything else is built upon. The Engine drives the experiences end-users see via our apps on their devices. The Engine powers the Studio IDE. And the Engine powers our Roblox Cloud Compute environment. The Systems team is the core of the engine, essentially like POSIX is to an OS.
We’re looking for a Principal/Director-level Product Manager - Engine Systems to oversee the next generation of our core environment. You’ll drive efforts including working with the Performance team to ensure we have a fast and stable system capable of auto-scaling to different client resource conditions. You’ll work with the Security team to ensure our platform remains safe from exploits. You’ll partner with the Programmability team to make it easier for our users to author custom behavior in our own Luau language. You’ll work with our Distributed Systems team to ensure mega-scale experiences run well on Roblox and automatically saturate a rack in our data centers. And more.
You Will:
- Work closely with engineering leadership to own the vision and roadmap for Systems at Roblox and report to the Product Director of Engine.
- Drive the strategy and execution of cross-functional projects.
- Know the customer best, including internal teams, external developer customers, and external end-users, working to research, prototype, and define the requirements for multiple Systems teams.
- Help build and manage a team of Product Managers to support defining and executing on the Systems roadmap.
- Work with engineering leadership to handle the project management aspects of execution.
- Communicate to other internal stakeholders including executives, engineers, designers, and product team members.
- Interface with our developer community as a key external voice of the various Systems sub-teams.
You Have:
- 10+ years of product management or related industry experience, with leadership, organizational, and execution skills; able to balance vision with data.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a similar technical field.
- Experience shipping deeply technical products in one or more of the following domains that Systems includes:
- Performance tooling and optimization
- Programming languages, virtual machines, and programming models
- Large-scale client/server systems, such as a MMO
- Distributed computing
- Security and anti-cheat systems
- Ability to learn quickly: we don’t expect any one candidate to have deep experience with every domain Systems includes, but we do expect you to learn what you don’t know and will provide support for you to do so.
- Clear communication, able to explain highly complex technical concepts at both high and low levels to executive stakeholders.
- Passionate about representing the customer–internal and external–and ensuring we deliver useful outcomes over ambiguous output.
You Might Have:
- Experience with the development of an operating system or foundational framework part of an OS.
- Experience working in the game development space, virtual worlds/simulation space, film & TV CG/VFX production, or AR/VR space.
- Experience working as a software engineer with knowledge of multiple programming languages/APIs and different design patterns.
You’ll Love:
- Industry-leading compensation package
- Excellent medical, dental, and vision coverage
- A rewarding 401k program
- Flexible vacation policy
- Roflex - Flexible and supportive work policy
- Roblox Admin badge for your avatar
- At Roblox HQ:
- Free catered lunches five times a week and several fully stocked kitchens with unlimited snacks
- Onsite fitness center and fitness program credit
- Annual CalTrain Go Pass
