Brass Lion Entertainment is seeking a Senior Combat Designer to join a talented and diverse team currently working on a new , unannounced A ction - Role Playing Game (Consoles, PC) with an anime art style.
The right candidate for this position will work closely with the Lead Gameplay Designer and a multi-disciplinary team of Designers, Programmers, Animators, Sound Designers , and VFX Artists to shape and implement the core combat design of the game . They possess an exceptional ability to communicate and demonstrate new ideas , share our passion for thinking differently about how games can look and feel , and will be instrumental in defining and creating the player’s moment-to-moment gameplay experience .

We have adapted to a fully remote working structure, with our team members contributing from New York City, Montréal, and fourteen other locations across Canada and the United States.
Responsibilities
- Help d evelop the combat vision of the game, with a focus on the player’s movement, combat, controls, and camera .
- Demonstrate an exemplary ability to create fantastic feeling combat actions through hands-on work in the Unreal engine.
- Collaborate closely with the team developing the game’s enemy A I , to ensure smooth interplay between the player’s abilities and AI behaviors.
- Collaborate with senior designers, animators, programmers, sound designers and VFX artists to develop a deep and accessible combat system.
Required Qualifications
- Professional experience as a Combat and/or Gameplay Designer, with at least one shipped title.
- Experience implementing and tuning animations, timing windows for attacks, blocks, hit reactions, and other detailed elements of combat.
- A deep understanding of game development processes and methodologies.
- Authorization to work in the US or Canada.
Skills & Attributes
- Ability to reliably communicate and produce content in a self-disciplined remote work environment
- Ability to work in a cross-discipline team – including art, animation audio, game design, and programming – to champion the best possible results
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Unreal 5, Blueprint, and/or the Gameplay Ability System
- Knowledge of animation fundamentals and what makes good combat
- Love of combat references, from films and anime to other games, and the ability to distill references into actionable gameplay direction
- Ability to work with programming to create best-in-class combat and animation tools for the design team

Salary Transparency: The standard base pay range for this role is USD$110,000 - USD$140,000 Annual (CDN$120,000 - CDN$150,000). Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.
