Principal Animator (Action Shooter)

We are looking for a Principal Animator to work on a ground-breaking next generation PvP shooter project with a Games as a Service focus. This is a AAA quality original IP at an exciting stage! The opportunity is to join at the early stages of a multi-year development and help shape an incredible new game experience. There is a strong focus on exciting, exaggerated hand keyed animation so we are looking for creative animators with great hand key skills!
The project is a huge multi-platform next generation action shooter experience with a heavy focus on Games as a Service, looking to bring unique mechanics and a flamboyant tone to blow the doors off and bring something new to the genre!
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Set standards for animation team to deliver world class animation on world class franchises
- Work with key project stakeholders such as the Game Director and Animation Lead to ensure game vision is maintained
- Work with the Game Director to deliver their vision to the animation team clearly
- Feedback on work from the animation team
- Mentoring and training of members of the animation team
- Collaborate with Technical Animators to develop and improve workflows
- Collaborate with character team to ensure their models are ready for rigging.
Requirements
- At least one AAA game shipped
- A good level of technical expertise and ability to problem solve
- Expert knowledge of Maya
- Thorough knowledge of typical rig set ups
- Strong Hand-Key Animation skills that demonstrate excellent body mechanics, weight and timing
- A deep understanding of human movement, spatial awareness and ability to adapt to different animation styles
- Highly self-motivated and able to work independently
- Must have a passion and understanding of what makes AAA games animation great.
- A love of video games and cinema
- Good communication skills both written and verbal
- Must be able to work well under pressure
ADDITIONAL OR DESIRED SKILLS:
- Previous experience with Unreal Engine or a proprietary engine
- Knowledge of Motion Builder
- Experience working with motion capture data and pipelines
- An understanding of mo-cap rigs at a high level
- Generalist art skills
- Scripting skills and tool creation
