Context:
Player Safety has become a strategic stake for the industry and for UBISOFT. For both business & ethical reasons, offering our users safe & positive gaming experiences when they engage with our games is essential to UBISOFT and we are committed to make tangible progress swiftly in that area.
As improving Player Safety encompasses a wide variety of expertise spread over a dozen teams around the organization, UBISOFT International Production needs to build a strong leadership that will drive the Player Safety strategy for UBISOFT International Production (HQ prod, studios, game teams) & ensures the consistency of its execution & delivery throughout the organization.
This is why we are looking today for UBISOFT’ International Production’s Player Safety Director - an experienced product management executive and an influential leader – whose objective will be to accelerate UBISOFT’s delivery in that field to offer our users the safe and positive gaming experiences they ought to live.
Your role:
Reporting to the Strategic Product Management Director, Online Services, the Player Safety Director drives the overall player safety strategy for UBISOFT International Production.
Accountable for the evolution of the player perception of their safety when they play within the UBISOFT ecosystem, he orchestrates the delivery of all transversal teams involved, ensuring the consistency, fairness & relevancy of our systems, rules & operations.
Missions:
VISION
- Defining our vision & strategy for player safety, catalyzing the inputs from its partners – game teams, editorial, Online Services, IT/SRM, publishing, D2P, Legal, CSR, etc. - to build alignment while generating strong momentum.
- Championing that vision within the production ecosystem and with our key UBISOFT partners to ensure the consistency of UBISOFT initiative & efforts towards our players through the proper implementation of the overall strategy.
- Leading UBISOFT efforts to initiate industry-wide collaboration programs and the establishment of shared standards & best practices.
- Being one of UBISOFT spokespersons for communication towards media and other institutions (regulatory authorities, academics, etc.) when necessary or relevant
MEASURE, OBSERVE, UNDERSTAND
Drive programs & initiatives to better measure, observe & understand threats on player safety, together with relevant partners
- Definition of tracking standards & policies that enables comparisons among destination and a holistic, deep player tracking over the whole ecosystem that feeds our services to personalize player experience
- Building relevant dashboard & monitoring tools for all teams involved (games, publishing, CRC, legal, online services etc.) and upper management. Ex.: Yearly player survey, RATS, etc.
- Research – including external partnership with academic or industry – to understand disruptive behaviors dynamics & impact
- Reporting & Communication about level of exposure & progress made
- Best practices, benchmarks and competitive intel gathering and sharing
DEFINING & ENFORCING CLEAR & CONSISTENT RULES & POLICIES
Working with all relevant partners (publishing – ComDev, PR, CRM… -, CSR, online services, public affairs, legal, IT/SRM, game productions, editorial, etc.), the Player Safety Director drives discussion to define, decline, communicate and educate on a clear set of rules for our games and games related destination. The Player Safety Director ensures those rules & policies are implemented in a consistent and clear way for our users
- Leading discussion for unified player Code of Conduct updates & standard sanction matrix evolution. Support games teams for sanction matrix configuration in different game contexts, based on data
- Leading in game 1/1 player communication about player safety (reporting loop, sanction loop): establishing standards, sharing best practices, and checking proper implementation throughout production
- Contributing to global communication strategy and game communication strategy about player safety (sharing data, best practices, and visibility on roadmaps)
- Leading in game (incl. Connect) educational programs about Player Safety
- Best practices, benchmarks and competitive intel gathering and sharing
PRODUCT STRATEGY FOR THE PLAYER SAFETY SERVICES FRAMEWORK
Articulates the vision & partners specific needs into actionable mandates for the development teams building the player safety services framework (moderation, reporting, reputation, sanction, player account, anti-cheat, etc.). Ex: Global Services, Connect, SRM, etc.)
- Partners with the game development teams in charge of those services to translate vision & mandate into proper roadmaps through regular interactions
- Follows the implementation of those roadmap (timely, qualitative and on budget delivery)
- Drives tech R&D initiatives in partnership with LaForge, SRM & other teams
- Best practices, benchmarks and competitive intel gathering and sharing
GAME CREATORS SUPPORT
Raise awareness about player safety stakes within the game design and game production community
- Share best practices, trends & benchmarks in that field
- Accompany editorial and game teams into finding proper player safety by design solutions for our portfolio and specific games through constructive challenge and consulting-on-demand.
Qualifications
- Senior management experience within the online gaming industry or another relevant digital industry
- First-hand experience of dealing with passionate online communities of users and managing user safety stakes
- Strong influential leader, a strategic achiever who will drive momentum while building alignment in a complex environment.
- Deep understanding of technology, UX, software development and business stakes related to digital spaces and/or online video games industry
- Analytical mindset at ease with data-driven environments
- Strong understanding of online gaming culture
- A fluent level of English
- Influence leadership
- Empathetic leader, at ease with organizational stakes
- At ease with multicultural environments and challenges associated with it
