SMG Studio is a dedicated gaming agency, building and creating highly engaging games with original and licenced IP for mobile, desktops and consoles. With offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Los Angeles, the SMG team have published key games such as Moving Out, Risk, Super One More Jump, Death Squared and many more!
We are seeking a technical web developer to work predominantly in PHP and cloud-based hosting as part of our development team. You will be supported by the Technical Director, testers, and team of developers.
To apply for this position you will have demonstrable projects (or experimental/research projects), hosted for evaluation. Please provide links and a brief description of what is special for each project.
What your typical day will look like:
- Develop efficient web-server/API solutions, predominantly using PHP, MySQL and Mongo databases.
- Manage and maintain cloud deployment code (predominantly AWS).
- Possess knowledge of complex database concepts (SQL and NoSQL).
- Use necessary server technologies to improve efficiency (e.g., caching, queuing, automation).
- Assist Unity developers to develop solutions.
- Assist in monitoring and debugging servers and solutions.
- Write code and design solutions in accordance with standards (e.g. PSR).
A bit about you:
- Have over 2 years working with PHP, web servers and database solutions.
- Have reasonable HTML, JS and CSS skills, and be prepared to work with others in implementing and editing front-end code.
- Have a knowledge and/or willingness to use alternative solutions (e.g., NodeJS, Python) where necessary.
- Experience with cloud hosting and deployment, preferably AWS.
- Knowledge of source control, preferably Git is desirable.
- Strong solution orientated mindset with a can-do attitude.
- Passion for constantly making things better and mastering your craft.
