Job Description
As an Online Game Designer at Ubisoft Winnipeg, you'll be the creative energy behind a specific set of game systems and mechanics. You provide players with tools to build unique gameplay experiences and opportunities to make meaningful choices.
You will be working on an upcoming live service game and supporting it through launch and post launch. Your focus will be the online features that support single and multiplayer gameplay, to help players connect and communicate with each other, and to support a healthy competitive experience for all players. An Online Game Designer has an eye for technical details and data, and can communicate well with other designers and online programmers.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain features aligned with the creative and game directions (e.g. grouping and invites, player ranking, matchmaking, sanctions and reporting, voice chat, crossplay, and more)
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate your assigned features.
- Adapt to the needs of a live service game over multiple seasons.
- Design new online features to support the game and the community.
- Create and maintain design documentation that will guide interdependent teams.
- Work on projects of your own initiative through our innovation Jams.
Qualifications
As an Online Game Designer, you're resourceful, technically minded, and a problem solver who can clearly explain their thought process. You bring a collaborative and empathetic spirit to all your work and value great communication. You are already a proactive and effective game designer who can complete their own mandates and anticipate issues. Besides this, we’re looking for someone aligned with our studio’s core values and the following skills and experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in video game production or related experience
- Post-secondary education in game design or similar would be an asset
- Experience with game engines (e.g. Unity or Unreal) and productivity software (word processors, spreadsheets, etc.)
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- A solid understanding of online and live service games already on the market - you play regularly to identify trends and use critical thinking to understand the decision-making process behind live updates.
