New Games Engineering Manager
Inspired by minimalist art, Dots was created with the notion that beauty and fun are not mutually exclusive. Now as part of the Take-Two Interactive family, we continue to strive to provide the world with stylish and meaningful daily play experiences.
We have big plans for the next generations of games at Dots. We’re looking for an enthusiastic individual who will guide our newest prototypes, help design our core game frameworks, navigate market tests, explore new technologies, and rise to the challenge of making our studio’s next suite of games!
In this role, you’ll be building a world class New Games engineering team, technology foundation, and delivery processes resulting in the successful realization of the Dots New Games roadmap, from early prototypes to global launches.
Key Responsibilities
Manager of a team of New Games engineers
As a manager of engineers, the role will require a passion for communicating with, inspiring, mentoring, and aligning engineers with varying levels of experience as well as the ability to effectively grow the team. The New Games Engineering Manager is responsible for allocating engineers effectively across New Games projects, and advocating across teams for New Games priorities. Successful candidates will be passionate about building out their vision, but equally passionate about their team’s success, setting high standards, learning new things, being genuinely curious about alternative points of view, and being committed to finding the best solution, regardless of where it comes from.
Technical guide for multiple simultaneous New Games projects
You will help Dots craft and maintain a comprehensive new games technology stack. This will require a strong understanding of application architectures, prototype to production frameworks, and the many surrounding services that support a modern-day mobile live ops game. Part of this role will also involve establishing and maintaining standard tools and practices across all of our projects, and ensuring that our new games projects are maintaining excellence in technical best practices.
Technical partner to the New Games product and art teams
The New Games Engineering Manager role will require close communication with product and studio leadership, to help guide the creation of reliable and realistic roadmaps for releases in various stages of project lifecycles.
Our Roadmap
The New Games road map can be very different from year to year, depending on the status of various projects. However, there are also several on-going cross-game initiatives. As the leader of the New Games engineering team, you will be responsible for driving vision for, continuously reinventing and taking these to the next level! If this sounds interesting to you, we’d love to have a chat.
- Prototypes — in general, we have zero to three prototypes running at any given time. Prototypes generally have small teams with a single engineer, and releases are small-scale, for running marketability tests.
- Soft Launched Games — past a certain stage, certain prototypes will scale up to a larger scale team with a dedicated technical lead and several engineers. Releases will target specific KPIs and there is a stronger focus on project quality and stability.
- Common Game Framework — we want to accelerate development of our products and maximize code re-use for common application elements. The design of these components and maintenance of the overall framework is critical for the New Games team.
- Releases & CI/CD — we make sure our build pipeline is stable as possible and that we are improving delivery for releases/workflows of all types.
- Services — New Games are designed within an ecosystem of Dots services, including analytics, crash reporting, live ops, etc. The common game framework deals with many of these services.
