Network Engineer
The Network Engineer is responsible for monitoring network performance, solving technical issues, updating job knowledge, installing and upgrading network equipment, ensuring network security, managing firewall changes, and providing customer service. This position will collaborate with Information Technology (IT), Facilities and vendors to plan, design, implement and oversee all network services including wireless, virtual private networking (VPN), firewall, Internet, switching and routing, across all TPCi sites. As a member of the IT Infrastructure team, you will focus on the availability, reliability, capacity and quality of these services using tools such as ThousandEyes, ExtraHop, Solarwinds and Sumo Logic.
What You Will Do
- Manage, maintain and monitor network infrastructure such as switches, firewalls, routers, wireless access points, Internet circuits, server rooms and network closets
- Ensure network security by upgrading firmware and software on network devices as well as making configuration changes as per security best practices and Information Security guidance
- Design and implement network infrastructure supporting TPCi data, voice and video systems
- Create network infrastructure performance reports and dashboards in tools like Solarwinds, ThousandEyes, ExtraHop and Sumo Logic
- Monitor IT Infrastructure service performance including network availability, reliability, quality, and capacity
- Document the design, operation, and troubleshooting of network platforms and procedures
- Troubleshoot IT infrastructure technologies, including network issues with wireless, firewall, storage, server, virtual and cloud environments
- Troubleshoot routing and switching in a multi-site environment, as well as network connectivity in Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure cloud environments
- Provide specific, detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements
- Conduct testing of network systems
- Maintain server rooms, network closets, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), power distribution units (PDUs) and Disaster Recovery environments
- Maintain technical expertise in all areas of network hardware and software, such as routers, switches, wireless access points and firewalls
- Evaluate and report on new network technologies to enhance capabilities of the network to support business needs
- Coordinate with other departments and vendors to support construction and growth initiatives
- Supervise vendors and contractors performing infrastructure implementations
- Mentor IT staff on network technologies
- Support local and remote users via IT Support ticketing systems, emails, Slack, phone calls, and as part of a Tier 2 after hours on-call rotation
What You Will Bring
- 5+ years of experience providing Tier 2 or higher network or firewall technical support
- Experience upgrading Cisco network devices such as core switches, top of rack switches, and access switches
- Firewall security policy, network address translation (NAT), remote user virtual private network (VPN), and Site-to-Site VPN configuration and troubleshooting experience
- Understanding of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) fundamentals (e.g. the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model, subnetting, Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), IP Address Management (IPAM), Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS), routing, switching, general networking technologies, network architecture and connectivity troubleshooting (wired and wireless)
- Network performance analysis and monitoring experience
- Packet capture analysis experience and familiarity with tools such as Wireshark or tcpdump
- Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) configuration and troubleshooting experience preferred
- Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, VMware, AWS experience and certifications preferred
- Additional infrastructure experience preferred such as storage array, physical server or VMware cluster management

What to Expect
We offer a professional, fun and creative work environment. While we maintain a good balance between work and life, additional hours may be required at peak times or for specific initiatives. Travel between office locations internationally may be required on occasion, up to 15%.
