Capacity Planner – Network Planning
Adelaide, Australia
As a part of Sony Interactive Entertainment, PlayStation is leading the cloud gaming revolution, putting console-quality video games on any device; and the Network Planning team is at the forefront of planning for and building the global network that makes this possible. As a Capacity Planner in the Network Planning team you will be responsible for proactively undertaking capacity planning and technical analysis activities regarding the performance of SIE’s global IP network. This includes both real-time assessment and long-term capacity modelling in order to provide inputs to supply strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the engineering team to understand the ASN33353 network topology.
- Use network monitoring tools and SIE data stores to gather and assess network performance data.
- Conduct detailed assessment of global network egress capacity, circuit performance, port capacity and traffic types/classes.
- Identify and document risks associated with network capacity and performance.
- Ongoing monitoring of threshold alerts against port and circuit utilisation (egalert against port commit values, burst thresholds).
- Producing reports against key network metrics and KPIs.
- Gathering input from across SIE to identify future (1-3yr) theoretical demand on our network.
- Develop and publish practices and procedures to support the capacity planning function.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of proven experience in a capacity planning or network operations role
- Working knowledge in monitoring and reporting on key network performance metrics (eglatency, availability, capacity, SLAs)
- Ability to develop network capacity planning models
- Highly proficient excel spreadsheet skills
- Working knowledge of IP networking principals and fundamentals
- Proven analytical abilities
- Experience in developing and communicating reports to a broad audience
- Practical experience generating and documenting practices and procedures
- Proficiency with collaboration tools (egSlack, Office365) and office management tools (eg Word, Excel)
Desired Skills and Knowledge:
- Familiarity with telecommunications and ISP service delivery
- Engineering education or background
- Familiarity with digital media software and networking technologies, especially those related to Sony’s products, services, and devices.
