Narrative Gameplay Designer (Remote)

ZA/UM is a video game studio that in 2019 released the award-winning role-playing game Disco Elysium. The studio has offices in London and Brighton in the UK and Porto in Portugal. Currently, we are around 90 writers, artists, developers and producers from around the world.
The Role:
- Define core gameplay systems in collaboration with the Narrative Director and ensure these are clearly communicated to the wider team.
- Build, oversee, coach, and mentor the design team.
- Develop strong relationships with Production, Writing, Art, and other teams to unify the game vision.
- Prioritise design cohesion and best practices across the team, communicating these via documentation, presentations, and mentoring.
- Review, amend, and balance gameplay to deliver a high-quality narrative gaming experience
- Troubleshoot any design issues.
- Implement and improve design systems, workflows, and processes.
Skills and experience:
- Extensive experience in game development
- Broad knowledge of game design with a focus on narrative systems
- Ability to rapidly prototype and iterate
- Leadership experience of a multi-person team; people management, mentoring
- Good knowledge of past and current industry trends
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven shipped titles in a Senior or Lead Game Designer role
