Narrative Director

We are Turtle Rock Studios. An award-winning game developer of AAA first person shooters and other games, including the latest co-op shooter franchise, Back 4 Blood . We are located in the heart of Orange County, CA and have team members working remotely throughout North America. We thrive in an open and collaborative environment which is led to this day by co-founders Chris Ashton and Phil Robb.

We are searching for a Narrative Director to help shape the narrative structure of the Back 4 Blood franchise and future projects. The Narrative Director will work closely with our Creative Director and project leads to create and oversee compelling stories, characters, and content that form the backbone of the game’s story.

Responsibilities

• Lead the creation of the core story and narrative elements as directed.
• Establish the tone and “voice” of the game.
• Make significant creative contributions to the game through story, cinematics, and other narrative elements.
• Gather and present reference materials and act as a resource for the design team.
• Ensure that art and design assets meet narrative requirements.
• Guide the quality and consistency of narrative within the writing and design teams.
• Edit and create written documents for internal review and milestone delivery.

Requirements

• Shipped at least one narrative-based AAA game.
• At least 5 years experience as a professional game writer/narrative director.
• Experience leading a team.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• Detail oriented.

Preferences

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Creative Writing, Theater or Film.
• Experience in other narrative-driven entertainment, such as film or television.
• Good sense of perspective - able to switch between "details" and "big picture" as needed.
• Passionate about games with a deep understanding of various narrative-driven games released within the history of the medium.
