Job summary
Amazon Games is looking for a Narrative Designer to join our team in sunny San Diego, CA to tell gripping tales of a brand new scifi world, its history, and its peoples; building world settings, lore, in-game stories, and cinematics for Amazon’s new massively multiplayer game.

As a Narrative Designer, you’ll be responsible for conceptualizing, writing, and supporting the implementation of quests, dialogue, lore, and characters. You will work collaboratively with our lead narrative designer, other narrative designers, character designers, and level designers to create engaging gameplay experiences. It will be a combination of your experience and an understanding of narrative fundamentals for MMO and RPG quest design that will define success.

We are looking for individuals that are highly motivated and passionate for games.

What you’ll do
· Define and refine the game narrative and ensure the world tells that story
· Collaborate with designers and artists to build Characters, Locations, Quests, and in-game Lore that tell coherent, emotionally resonant stories
· Employ and refine best practices for Narrative and Quest design
· Employ and optimize pipelines and process to ensure quality and scope are met and maintained
· Maintain a strong creative relationship between production, design, programming, art, and animation teams
· Pitch and prototype fun and exciting Quests and Activities for players
· Create and maintain Narrative and Quest design documentation
· Create NPC characters and implement them in game

Basic Qualifications

· 1+ years of Quest/Narrative Design or Game Writing experience at an established game studio
· Demonstrated experience with dialogue editors and/or game development tools (Lumberyard, Unreal, Unity, etc…)
· A portfolio that demonstrates process and capabilities in crafting compelling game narratives, which includes published work

Preferred Qualifications

· Passion for video games
· Experience creating stories for massively multiplayer role-playing games
· Passion for science fiction and fantasy
· 1+ PC MMO or RPG title(s) shipped
· Comfortable working in game editors and understanding engine/game constraints and opportunities.
· Knowledge and experience using UE4
· Strong methodology and problem solving ability, with focus on creative and fun gameplay.
· Able to accept and give constructive criticism and maintain a professional attitude.
· Independently self-motivated, team player with excellent communication skills.
· Passionate gamer with knowledge of current commercial game titles.
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
· Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.
