Narrative Designer

HB Studios is a driving force in the creation of sports games and the studio behind PGA TOUR 2K Golf – presently working on PC and Consoles. We have an opportunity for a Narrative Designer who is passionate about the art and process involved in game development to join our studio!

As a Narrative Designer, you will work with a team of professionals on the design and implementation of narrative elements for one of the fastest growing sports game series in the industry!

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Design Lead and development teams to define the narrative features that support the game title's vision and design.
• Author and champion the design of narrative features used to drive efforts across teams, including UI, Audio, Localization, Engineering, Animation, Art and QA.
• Shepherd narrative systems through implementation, and perform hands-on work; including writing, scripting, content creation, playtesting and tuning.
• Drive the adoption and development of narrative tools and systems as needed.
• Provide feedback on all aspects of the design and development processes to improve the ultimate quality and success of the game.
• Consider all contributions through a design-critical lens to identify, report, and address any issues impactful to the game’s overall quality.
• Contribute to our growing philosophy of game design and how we make games.
• Provide mentorship to less experienced team members.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

• Typically a minimum of 2 to 4+ years of experience in narrative design.
• An excellent understanding of non-linear narrative systems and structures.
• Familiarity with the stories generated by sports, and how they’re packaged into impactful, emergent narratives for the viewer or player.
• Experienced in technical implementation using game narrative tools of choice.
• A reliable teammate with the ability to work independently.
• An effective communicator in both verbally and written forms.
• A detail-oriented person with flexibility and problem-solving skills.
• Experience authoring narrative via multiple mediums (written, voice-over/commentary, mo-cap and animation, video, etc) considered a plus.
