OVERVIEW
At PlayStation London Studio, we are on a mission to make award-winning, landmark games. Our upcoming PlayStation 5 online multiplayer game will be focused on a brand-new IP we are extraordinarily excited about.
Our new game is close to our hearts, as the whole team collaborated on coming up with the concept from the very beginning. We’ve seen this idea grow from a seed, and now we’re looking for new starters to continue our journey on shaping our plans for this AAA project.
We’re also a part of the PlayStation Studios family, a collective of teams - from Insomniac to Naughty Dog and many more. As such, we have solid support system – often knowledge sharing industry advancements so that all our studios, individually lead the way to create memorable gaming experiences.
We are excited to be opening this role and would love to hear from Narrative Designers who love to build engaging worlds with a story which supports great gameplay and enables our team to build fantastic content.
As Lead Narrative Designer, you will be directly responsible for working with Writers to build a world lore and story bible which allows the team to build fabulous characters and incredible environments for the game to play out in.
Most of all we want a Narrative Designer who is a wonderful storyteller. Someone who can ensure that the narrative permeates through every aspect of the game and extends out onto other supporting media.
Scope of Work
- Managing the Narrative Designers, Writers and Consultants to produce the narrative design and script for our game.
- Working with our Design Manager and the Production team to set goals, create task estimates and build schedules.
- Ensuring that our game features diverse, authentic and compelling characters, locations and events.
- Development of an intriguing backstory and world lore which sets up years of ongoing story.
- Providing Narrative briefs for other teams before they build content to feature in storylines or campaign missions.
- Character bios which both inspire and support our Gameplay and Art teams to build rich, narratively exciting characters.
- Creation of an initial campaign to introduce the world and characters, then ongoing campaign to develop the narrative and introduce new content.
- Objectives and Story beats for side quests and missions.
- Design and implementation of the narrative delivery systems such as Quest-Setter interactions, Character reactions, Collectable info, combat narrative etc.
Knowledge / Experience
- Our ideal candidate would be experienced at a Principal level as their role has a franchise wide impact.
- Ability to Working with the Art and Design Directors to build the vision, tone and voice for the game’s narrative. Experience in casting and directing performance talent to deliver that tone would also be beneficial.
- Our leads are empowered and need to be proactive. They should be able to pitch what they want to do then build a team and resources they need to do it.
- High level of passion, creativity, and collaboration, taking ideas from everyone and pulling them into narrative shape.
- A highly skilled communicator, able to be a vision holder to teams within the studio as well as external partners where required.
- An excellent understanding of non-linear narrative systems and how to deliver story in an ongoing or GaaS game. Experience using narrative delivery tools such as Twine, Ink or articy:draft would be a fantastic addition to the team.

Our roles can be flexible in terms of work location in the UK. We will consider the individual’s preference for hybrid, remote or onsite working. Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate remote working outside of the UK.
