Your Mission
As a Senior Game Designer (UX) you will be working on flows and user experience of the games we create and contribute to at Abstraction. You will be an important participant in all aspects and phases of the game production process. You will be providing UX, UI and Interaction design, along with documentation for various aspects of the game. You will also be providing your expertise as an active participant in implementation and iteration. ADay in the life of a UX Designer at Abstraction
Abstraction works on a variety of different projects. From our own original content to co-development on large and well-known client IPs. On any given day a Senior Game Designer UX may be handling a variety of tasks: from giving invaluable feedback on the work of other designers, to participating in requirements extractions with clients, to creating a HUD for our newest internal incubation project. The UX team serves as a shared resource that touches all projects at Abstraction, and as such there will be many opportunities to take on a variety of different tasks and make a significant contribution to all sorts of different games.
Hands-on responsibilities:
- Creating flow-based design wireframes & mock-ups for all aspects of the games we work on.
- Work closely with all disciplines – code, design, audio, animation, FX – to design an exceptional user experience throughout the game.
- Create and iterate on UX prototypes and documentation.
- Work closely with Artists and Engineers to deliver the most consistent, best possible user experience while staying within technical constraints.
- Take an active role in implementation and feature delivery.
- Maintain effective communication with project stakeholders.
- Maintain and enhance our approach to interface design and user experience in all our game projects.
Leadership responsibilities:
- Constant learning and improving.
- Serve as an expert advocate for UX at the company and project level.
- Serve as a mentor to more junior members of the UX team (and design discipline generally).
- Collaborate with Lead Designer to execute the vision on various projects.
- Collaborate with the Lead Designer and producers to ensure successful completion of projects on time and within budget
Requirements
On day one we expect you to have:
- The ability to work well within a medium to large team of multi-discipline game developers.
- The ability to multitask, prioritize and deliver in a timely manner.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical and trouble-shooting skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- 5+ years of practical UI/UX work experience.
- A showcase of elegant UX flows for at least one shipped game, app, or consumer product.
- Knowledge of best-in-class UX design practices.
- Demonstrable experience with a collaborative interface design tool (like Figma or XD).
- Demonstrable experience in one or more scripting languages.
- Understanding of at least one game engine.
Bonus if you have (any or all) of these:
- 3+ years of games industry experience
- UI/UX Designer credits for one or more games.
- Experience with Unreal Engine 4 or 5
- Proficiency in Graphic Design
- Experience designing and/or conducting UX Research
