Matte Painter

Tangent Animation is the vision of Animation and Film Production industry professionals, with combined experience that encompasses CG Animation, Live Action Film Production, Visual Effects, and Software Development. Tangent Animation strives to find solid team players that thrive on collaboration and community commitment to build open source capabilities. Tangent Animation is currently recruiting for Matte Painter to work collaboratively with our studio team.

Job Duties :

• Ability to adapt to the show’s artistic style;
• Obtain a level of realism based on the art direction of the project;
• Create the necessary support or assets for the projection of images;
• Performing tasks related to integrating imagery into shots, preserving a unified sense of lighting, perspective, and color;
• Integrating matte paintings into 3D environments;
• Collaborate with the Layout Department in order to determine the matte painting requirements and locations;
• Create matte paintings for sometimes complex camera-mapping;
• Provides foreground, mid-ground, and background paintings for use in 2D, 2.5D and 3D environments;
• Produce or assist in developing and producing design concepts, including characters and environments;
• Contribute to the visual and technical attributes of the production;
• Assists with troubleshooting the background components created;
• Perform tasks and corrections given by the Supervisor and Director by demonstrating analytical skill and proactivity;
• Maintain the schedule and quotas given by the Production Coordinator;
• Communicate and search for solutions and information when necessary;
• Maintain a good team dynamic;
• Specific duties to be determined on a project by project basis;
• Demonstrable skills in Concept design desirable but not essential.

Requirements

• At least one to two (1-2) years of experience working as a matte painting lead artist in film production/animated series or in visual effects;
• Knowledge of traditional painting and drawing techniques is a plus;
• Knowledge of 3D programs would be an asset;
• Strong knowledge of photoshop;
• Blender knowledge considered an asset;
• Experience in compositing would be considered an asset;
• Possess knowledge related to lighting, rendering, and the compositing process would be considered an asset;
• Thorough understanding of 3D and animation movies production pipeline;
