Material Artist (Senior)

Job Description
Ubisoft Quebec is looking for a talented Material Artist to join our team and produce high-quality content for an ambitious AAA game. The Material Artist will collaborate closely with our Art Director, Lead Material and other team members, to create realistic Substance Designer-based materials that match the vision of the project and its art direction.
What you’ll do
- Create realistic, physically based materials, from scratch, sculpt or scans;
- Build, organize and maintain your material library;
- Collaborate with the art team to grasp the game’s artistic vision and set texture priorities;
- Study concept art and research your own references to develop the visual design language;
- Work closely with level artists to understand environment needs;
- Partner with modellers to suggest and provide textures or support;
- Find balance between artistic aspects and technical constraints;
- Document and share your knowledge and best practices;
- Modify your work based on both aesthetic and technical feedbacks.
Qualifications
What you bring to the team
- A diploma in 3D Modelling or equivalent (undergraduate degree an asset);
- Significant experience in texturing, environment, modelling or other related experience;
- Strong understanding of PBR materials and workflows;
- Strong/Expert knowledge of Substance Designer and Painter workflows as well as photoshop;
- Highly proficient in 3DS Max, Maya or Blender;
- Strong Ability in sculpting with Zbrush or similar software;
- A solid understanding of art fundamentals (lighting, composition, proportion, colour theory, etc.) and game constraints;
- A highly creative, collaborative, and innovative spirit;
- Excellent observation, communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills;
- Motivation to reach out for feedback and adapt to it;
- Aesthetic sensitivity and a keen eye for even the subtlest of details;
- Photogrammetry knowledge a plus.
