Manager, Software Engineering - League, Summoner's Rift

As Engineering Managers, we gain organizational alignment by building a strong engineering vision and offering creative solutions to organizational design. We also serve as mentors for engineers, guiding their performance and finding growth opportunities delivering compelling gameplay player experiences.
As a Manager, Software Engineering on the League of Legends Summoners Rift team you will work with a multidisciplinary leadership team and lead engineers to collaboratively solve gameplay problems with a multidisciplinary team. The play appreciation of our game depends on our ability to keep the game fresh, engaging, and fair for new and seasoned players. You will manage engineers who specialize in the league gameplay tech. You will work with leaders to refine the team's long-term vision, and the organizational plan to support it. You will report to the Gameplay Initiative's Director of Engineering in our office in Los Angeles.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and socialize an engineering vision for the team
- Work with team leaders to create a organization and staffing plan that supports product goals
- Interview and hire new engineers
- Support the engineers with your own deep engineering expertise
- Support engineers' careers through mentorship and identifying growth opportunities
- Manage a team's health and performance from a place of empathy
- Implement gameplay features in the League of Legends game using C++, content tools, and game scripting
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience building and operating software at scale as a Software Engineer
- 1+ years of experience in a team leadership role, either as a manager or technical lead
- Experience in Agile processes and continuous delivery
- Experience mentoring junior and senior engineers
- Experience delivering features on in collaboration with designers or artists
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with Unreal, Unity, or gameplay engineering using C++
- Experience working in live game-as-a-service production environments
- Experience managing software engineers
- Experience growing careers with software engineers
- Experience interviewing and evaluating engineering candidates
