As a Manager, Design & Communication Systems, your focus is defining design solutions and solving user problems. You invent, create, & implement mechanisms and services that allow for clear and accessible communication both internally and externally. You are a Human-Centered Design practice leader who is willing to roll up their sleeves to create world class design solutions and grow a team to do the same. You will channel your conceptual and visual design abilities, understanding of data and performance metrics, and knowledge of accessibility standards to ensure that all Riot’s Tech Department visual communication is human readable, intelligible, and meaningful. You will build and lead a team that focuses on templates, external tech communications, presentations, decks, graphic design, and innovation within design automation. Over time you will grow, guide and mentor a team of designers & technical writers in order to evolve digital tools and service design experiences through collaboration, validation by empowering employees, and obsessing over the customer experience. This work will require strong communication and relationship building across the broader organization.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the Tech Department is addressing accessibility when it comes to visual communication at Riot. Includes ensuring that all decks, presentations, and published materials from the Tech Department meet ADA compliance requirements
- Drive the artistic benchmark and asset production for all Riot organizational deliverables - demonstrating not only a high bar of craft excellence, but also ensuring Riot’s deliverables are accessible (referencing ADA & A11Y standards) and human readable.
- Plan, implement, & continually evolve a model for internal design assistance and expertise within Riot.
- Spearhead innovation around design automation of commonly required materials, partnering with engineers and leaders as needed.
- Build, develop, and lead a cross-functional team of technical writers and UI/visual/graphic designers.
- Educate the Tech Department as to visual accessibility standards and best practices, as well as basics of presentation design, through easy to use guides, Confluence publications, and open workshops.
- Co-Lead with DMs the design thinking exercises and workshops as required to help establish organizational process documentation.
- Creation, implementation, and maintenance of “The IDS Top 10”, an inclusive forum through which Rioters and preferred vendors can submit information around trends and innovation for curation and incorporation in a monthly publication.
- Be informed as to current trends and technology innovation within data visualization and presentation design.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience in a senior/leadership role managing creative teams, with high cross-functional collaboration
- Design principles and core design values from years of experience (expertise in design principles, visual storytelling, and color theory) and the ability to defend your designs while collaborating with partners and absorbing their feedback.
- Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects, ability to be both strategic and tactical with solid organizational skills and a high attention to detail
- An understanding of accessibility standards as they relate to visual assets, including both virtual & printed materials
- Understanding of language around performance metrics
- Ability to develop and convey thoughts, stories, and ideas clearly and effectively in verbal, written, and visual format.
- Expert at critically interpreting data and communicating information visually through graphics, typography, infographics, and diagrams using Adobe Creative Suite, GSuite, and PowerPoint.
