The Localization Editor oversees all localization-related processes for their target language and manages all incoming localization requests. The person in this position is responsible for localization quality and deadlines in the target regions, making sure all departments have all required localization-related information in time. Provides localization QA where necessary, as well as helps with community and social posts localization.
Responsibilities
The Localization Editor will work closely with the ESO Localization team to review translations and identify and provide feedback on localization issues.
- Review translations from external translation vendor(s) or other team members.
- Familiarize with the game and specifically new areas getting localized.
- Provide assistance to external translation teams with queries on those new areas.
- Play the pre-release game to verify correct implementation of localized assets and accuracy of translations.
- Identify localization issues and defects (bugs).
- Liaise continuously with the external vendor for Localization QA.
- Enter defects into bug tracking system based on department standards.
- Test and verify bug fixes (regression testing).
- Attend recording sessions to provide direction and guidance (alternating with other team members)
- Review localized audio files, and edit as required and instructed.
- Provide feedback on localization related issues in both written and verbal form.
- Liaise regularly with the Localization Director to agree approach and priorities.
- Liaise with other Localization Editors and Project Managers for other languages to sync approach and share issues.
- Assist in assessing and escalating game issues and concerns with peers and to senior team members, generally to the Lead Testers.
- Provide ad-hoc translations as and when required and requested.
- Such other duties as may be set forth by the Company.
Preferred Skills
- Native speaker with strong language skills in European Spanish.
- Strong English verbal and written skills.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to create clear and concise reports.
- Thorough understanding of game testing and localization testing processes.
- Ability to learn quickly and apply that knowledge to testing tasks.
- Ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to remain focused and maintain attention to details.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Broad knowledge of games across different platforms with an emphasis on MMORPGs.
- Experience playing localized versions of games with an emphasis on MMORPGs.
- Proficient with MS Office
- Experience and understanding of PC MMO localization testing.
- Previous experience with MMORPGs, especially in a localization or QA function.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- Previous experience in the Localization industry.
- Previous experience as video game translator or tester.
