Lighting and VFX Artist (Cinematics)

This is a permanent role based onsite in our Cornwall Studio (working 2 days a week from home optionally).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be a lighting and VFX artist ready to be hands-on with implementation and be responsible for the overall lighting and VFX in our cinematics and beyond. We believe diversity is a strength and we are looking for talent across the board.

  • Create high-quality in-game visual effects that work well with the visual direction of the game
  • Lighting levels to the creative and technical brief
  • Driving the narrative and storytelling using colour, light, and mood to convey emotional experiences
  • Responsible for lighting game environments with the highest level of quality
  • Contributing to the development and placing of visual effects related to lighting and atmosphere
  • Work closely with Art Director/Lead Artist and team leads to help define and execute the lighting direction for the project
  • Integrate with cinematic and art teams to light their spaces according to production schedules
  • Anticipate and identify production challenges to leads
  • Work with tech artists to closely manage lighting to fit memory, design, and frame rate limits
  • Ability to follow concept/reference
  • Have a keen artistic eye and ability to recognize quality and excellence, with a proficiency in using visual language to support player experiences and gameplay
  • Demonstrate a strong command of timing, weight, realism, color, volume, energy, particle aesthetics
  • Display strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to provide clear technical documentation regarding Light/VFX production and implementation
  • Lead by example, taking ownership of sections of the project’s VFX. This involves both sharing knowledge across the team, and also responsible for supporting the planning, estimation, and prioritization of tasks

REQUIREMENTS

  • A professional portfolio
  • Expert knowledge of Unreal Engine
  • Knowledge of Unreal 5 and Lumen a big advantage
  • You have knowledge of colour theory, cinematography, and a strong sense of light and shadow
  • You Understand composition and the ability to enhance mood by lighting
  • Good photoshop editing skills for creating textures for use with particle systems
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Skills to communicate the material to the art and design teams

BENEFICIAL SKILLS

  • Excellent artistic ability
  • Professional experience with using Houdini in other industries (e.g. films)
  • Experience with other real-time particle systems
  • Understand scripting and coding principles
  • Strong positive communicator
  • Experience with Quixel suite / Substance suite
  • Passion for First-Person Shooters
  • Well-organized and proactive
