The Role
As a Level Design Director, your mission is to ensure our world and levels provide fun and an appropriate challenge to our players. You will have to craft a direction for the levels and content in collaboration with the Project Core team on the project and ensure that levels and related content are delivered on time and with the highest possible quality.
What you’ll be doing
- Develop a player-centric Level Design vision and ensure it carries throughout the game.
- Define a Level Design language appropriate for the experience the game sets out to deliver, from metrics to content rules to encounter design.
- Be the gatekeeper for the quality and fun of the gameplay spaces the team builds and champion it towards the various stakeholders involved.
- Provide a level of challenging fun appropriate to the platform and the audience requirements and in accord with the Creative Vision for the project.
- Understand how to incorporate platform and engine tech constraints into your creative vision while being at the crossroads between art, gameplay and narrative.
- Own and disseminate the game's overall creative vision within your level design team. Ensure that your team are taking good creative decisions in their designs that support a cohesive, exciting game experience.
- Contribute to work planning as a content expert in collaboration with planning directors in an effort to find the balance between the quality that is expected and the ability to deliver the game (in terms of time, costs, resources, etc.).
- Provide mentorship and constructive feedback to your level design team to achieve the highest quality.
- Work with feedback from playtesters or internal cross-functional teams (usability, accessibility, TRCs, etc.) in order to take a problem-solving approach to tackle any issues they might have uncovered.
- Help design and build an efficient and pain-free content creation pipeline for your teams.
- Work with the team on comprehensive documentation for both the vision and the creation process for the levels and content.
Qualifications
What you’ll bring
- Proven professional experience leading or directing Level Design within a major game production.
- Having the experience of several full game production cycles from conception to shipping, with several projects shipped and at least one in a Lead or Director capacity.
- An extensive knowledge about Level Design you’re eager to share with your teams.
- Good communication skills and the ability to formulate and communicate your vision.
- Fluent in English, both verbally and written.
