About the role
Legal operations is the set of business activities, processes, and people that maximize an in-house legal team’s ability to protect and grow the company. It requires a wide-ranging combination of skills including strategic planning, financial management, vendor management, technology management, and legal data analytics. A legal operations leader typically reports directly to the General Counsel and serves as a chief of staff who helps legal departments get the most out of their legal budgets, legal vendors, and legal technology. The key characteristics of all legal operations specialists are:
- A strong understanding of the core business and experience in collaborating with cross-functional groups
- An ability to translate the needs of business departments into legal requirements
- A commitment to use the internal legal department to grow the company
- An ability to manage outside law firm performance
- A capacity of designing process and identifying optimizable points aspects
- A broad technical understanding of Legal tools and familiarity with operating legal software, as well as driven by data
- A critical understanding of metrics for process, considering its importance as well as limitations

Who you are
We’re looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented and seasoned project individual to come join our team as a Legal Operations Specialist, where you’ll liaise with multiple cross-functional stakeholders across the business to help identify opportunities to improve processes, share best practices, and refine the day-to-day operations of the legal department to optimize their effectiveness to the organization. As a Legal Operations Specialist, you will be responsible for owning the strategy and implementation of our legal technology solutions and act as the system admin, ensuring systems are used consistently and operating successfully. We expect you to have strong knowledge and understanding of department policies and procedures as they relate to the job function.
What you’ll do
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, share best practices, and improve efficiency within the Legal department’s organizational structure, systems, and technologies
- Build and maintain strong relationships within the Legal department, and other cross-functional stakeholders
- Assist in developing strategy for Legal technology solutions, work with the team to select and implement solutions, ensure systems are used consistently and operating successfully
- Serve as Legal department admin and subject matter expert for existing legal technologies (e.g., contract management system)
- In partnership with Legal leadership, build out and report on centralized KPIs, metrics for Legal department
- Collect and analyze data from department tools and industry sources, help to define objectives, benchmarking opportunities and metrics
- Asses relevant metrics for a small and generalist Legal Department
- Develop and maintain system related documentation and training materials, updating as necessary to reflect changes implemented in process and/or system functionality due to releases or configuration changes
- Assist with managing vendors (including outside counsel) to ensure appropriate tracking and expense reporting by optimizing workflows within the legal department
- Communicate effectively and clearly with internal teams, including legal, finance, and sales
- Lead and support various ad hoc projects within the Legal department as needed
- Consistently ensure that business is conducted with integrity at all times and that behavior aligns with the company's policies, procedures, and core competencies
