Legal Operations Associate

Do you get excited about designing processes and building systems that improve day-to-day efficiencies? Niantic is looking for its first ever Legal Operations role to help increase the Legal Team’s effectiveness as we scale our augmented reality games and platform. Niantic Legal partners with teams across the company to develop solutions for the legal, compliance and public policy challenges (and opportunities!) the company encounters as it continues to develop innovative augmented reality experiences. This is a great opportunity for someone who likes to work with cross-functional partners and who enjoys the challenge of making things run very well. It's a generalist role that involves supporting a broad range of issues, including legal operations, employment-related practices and vendor management.
Legal Operations
- Document existing legal workflow processes and create new ones as needed to increase efficiency.
- Create and maintain repository of legal templates and legal documents.
- Implement and manage self-service tools and reference documents on Legal page for other internal teams to use for routine questions; implement training programs as needed.
- Update databases, manage records for domestic and international subsidiaries, assist in the preparation of board and compliance materials, prepare regulatory filings, and work on special projects as needed.
- Help develop personnel management processes (e.g. attorney onboarding and training), manage professional development (including continuing legal education and resource databases) for existing legal team.
- Manage key legal projects across the team, including working with other departments to help implement cross-departmental projects involving the legal team.
Employment Practice Support
- Draft and revise standard forms with mentorship from the Legal team.
- Assist in developing employment-related playbooks.
- Provide support to the Legal department on routine employment-related queries with mentorship from Employment Counsel.
- Update handbooks and policies globally.
- Support other Niantic legal and risk management functions as needed.
Vendor Management
- Negotiate fee agreements with outside counsel and conduct regular business reviews with outside counsel, evaluating outside counsel against communicated expectations.
- Implement and enforce billing guidelines with outside counsel.
- Administer and provide support for legal billing management system (Simplelegal), including reporting on key metrics that will better inform decision-making and use of resources.
Qualifications
- You have a minimum of 4 years of experience with legal project operations and management.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills as well as organizational skills.
- Effective, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
- You love expanding your skill set, and you can prioritize and efficiently project manage in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
- You have the judgment and experience to spot issues and work independently, and to consult with others as necessary.
