Legal Counsel

The Funcom team consists of over 300+ people located in 5 studios - Norway, the US, Portugal, Sweden, a newly opened Romania studio - plus an additional UI/UX hub in the UK. We are looking for a Legal Counsel who will be on the forefront of the intersection between law, entertainment and technology. Is that you?

In our further growth, we are looking for a dynamic and well-rounded Legal Counsel to be a key member of our management team.

Your mission in Funcom

Our growth will continue to happen globally across several locations. To succeed, we need to be prepared for and comply with game-changing challenges by the international laws and regulations. As a Legal Counsel you will help us establish great partnerships, make sound deals and participate in shaping the future of the company by setting the framework for a wide range of juridical areas: Licensing, IP, technology, privacy, operations, marketing, policies, governance and publishing.

You will work independently in a dynamic and creative scale-up environment, while collaborating with Tencent Games’global legal expertise, Funcom legal in the US and other external legal advisors. You will assist on legal matters to enable the business to make informed and balanced decisions while mitigating risk in a constantly evolving industry. You will have an important role in developing and executing our ongoing legal activities, and support in legal issues about setting up new studios, new models of working or new territories for expansion. This position will be located in Oslo, Norway and report directly to our CFO.

How you can have an impact in your position:

• Provide advice on a wide range of corporate and commercial legal matters

• Draft, review and negotiate complex commercial agreements

• Support and guide according to best practices and regulations

• Collaborate with external counsel and Tencent attorneys based around the world

• Develop structures and processes within the legal function

• Develop day to day assistance and innovative solutions to support business needs while mitigating risk in a constantly evolving industry

We are looking for someone that has:

• At least 5+ years of work experience in a law firm and/or as an in-house counsel in an international environment

• Experience with working independently to manage an entire contract process with negotiation and execution

• A Law degree, with a minimum of a master’s degree

• Excellent communication skills, ability to persuade and influence others and work cross-functionally

• Excellent English language skills, both written and verbal

• An interest in our business, and gaming in general is an advantage

• Excellent proactive can-do attitude and problem-solving skills

• Service-minded

• Convincing in the sense of being able to influence others and gain their support
