Electronic Arts Inc. is a leading global interactive entertainment software company. EA delivers games, content and online services for Internet-connected consoles, personal computers, mobile phones and tablets.
EA is looking for a motivated, skilled, practical, and well-rounded Legal Counsel to take day-to-day responsibility for all general regional and commercial legal needs of our business in the UK and Ireland. EA’s next Legal Counsel should have the technical skill, understanding and business acumen to handle a wide range of legal issues, including contract negotiation, IP, data protection, consumer law, compliance and other issues that may arise from time to time, working with legal specialists where appropriate. They will partner with multiple business groups within EA, such as procurement, marketing, facilities, business affairs and publishing teams. This position is based in our Guildford office.
Responsibilities include:
- Drafting, negotiating and reviewing general commercial agreements for the UK and Irish business, such as services and supplier agreements, facilities related agreements, recruitment services agreements and data protection agreements.
- Working with UK and Ireland regional marketing team on game related events and campaigns and related agency agreements.
- Providing legal advice on regional legal matters, such as consumer law, compliance, company secretarial matters.
- Working with senior counsel who provides primary support, Legal Counsel will draft and negotiate content licensing and talent agreements
- Working with legal colleagues and contributing to the global legal department by developing and maintaining policies, contract templates, training and guidelines to ensure legal compliance and operational efficiency.
- Developing creative solutions to support business needs and objectives while mitigating risk.
Required skills and experience:
- A qualified Solicitor, or holds equivalent overseas professional legal qualification, with approximately 1-3 years PQE.
- Knowledge and experience (of a level commensurate with PQE) in the negotiation and preparation of a wide range of commercial and marketing agreements, including experience with data protection.
- Experience in the sports, entertainment, or games industry is a plus, but a desire to learn and eagerness to tackle whatever comes across the desk whilst still smiling is more important.
- Ability to work with cross-functional business and legal teams.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to establish strong working relationships. Ability to partner with business owners to achieve the best outcome for the company and problem solve where needed.
- Ability to work independently, but with awareness of when to seek guidance from senior counsel and escalate matters accordingly
- Ability to handle a high volume of work with an appropriate level of supervision, with the ability to multi-task, assess business and legal risk in a focused and efficient manner, and prioritize workload efficiently and effectively.
