Legal Counsel, Privacy (Part-Time)

At EA, we inspire the world to play. We are seeking a passionate, collaborative, and driven privacy and compliance attorney to join our team on a part-time basis (~2.5 days per week). This position will report to an EA Privacy Counsel in the creation of games, online services, and policies to help deliver upon EA’s mission to be the world’s greatest games company.
You are an effective and practical attorney who can drive operational compliance strategies around privacy and data protection. You are keen to tackle complex privacy projects and can drive success working with multiple cross-functional stakeholders.
Role Summary
You will work alongside a team of attorneys, legal professionals, and business stakeholders to develop and execute a global privacy program with a focus on compliance, operations, and risk management. From game development and deployment, marketing/ad-tech, central back-end databases, marketplace/commerce tools, to in-game social and communication tools, and cloud gaming, this Privacy Counsel will ensure that the privacy-by-design requirements developed by the Privacy Team are implemented throughout EA’s products and solutions. You will assist in managing our compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Player First commitments, while applying leading practices to our most critical privacy program focus areas, including data privacy rights responses, data mapping, certifications, guidance assurance, testing, training, and awareness initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Assist with EA’s Data Privacy Rights response processes (e.g. requests for access or deletion);
- Assist with Data Mapping, DPIAs, Data Protection Regulator enquiries and DPO mailbox management
- Perform legal research and provide advice on emerging global privacy regulations, including providing subject matter expertise to the policy and government relations team. Assist in the development and support internal policies and guidance for privacy and data governance practices;
- Provide legal advice and day-to-day support to cross-functional groups responsible for auditor, regulator, and third party relations;
- Work with Privacy Team to develop, implement, and evolve a globally comprehensive privacy program, focused on assessing risks, designing and updating controls, monitoring and evidencing compliance, and evolving the program over time;
- Assist in the management and implementation of internal tools and third party certifications in support of cookie compliance, PIA/DPIA, and data mapping programs; and
- Monitor organizational processes, internal controls and performs analysis to measure program effectiveness and compliance; completes appropriate documentation.
Qualifications
- J.D. and 5+ years’ relevant experience, with some law firm experience desired;
- Experience with consumer privacy, data governance, and broad consumer technology and entertainment
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on diverse matters, successfully lead cross-functional projects, and comfortable finding creative and practical solutions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, impeccable integrity, good judgment, strong analytical skills, and a keen sense of humor.
- Collaborative by nature and able to build strong partnerships;
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and ability to manage a diverse and complex workload;
- CIPP, CIPP-E, a plus
- Background in computer science or other similarly related technical related field, a plus
