Lead VFX Artist
PlayStation Studios is hiring! PixelOpus, creator of the award-winning action-adventure PS4 game Concrete Genie, is seeking outstanding talent to join our passionate and creative family in crafting an exciting new PlayStation 5 title in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation.
PixelOpus is one of 18 Global Game Development Studios within the PlayStation Studios family. Located at PlayStation's HQ in San Mateo, CA, this innovative studio is looking for a Lead VFX Artist to partner closely with our engineers, designers and animators to create stunning VFX for our new title.
Responsibilities
- Builds and manages the VFX team.
- Mentors team members.
- Designs and creates new VFX and render features.
- Sets and maintains technical & quality visuals effects benchmarks without supervision.
- Works with Art Director to create and maintain artistic style consistent with defined visual style.
- Reviews VFX work and provides art feedback.
- With engineering team, identifies and builds tools and pipelines.
- Owns VFX team planning, risk assessment and scoping.
- Works with project management to manage VFX team schedule.
- Establishes and maintains best practice documentation.
- Diagnoses, optimizes and troubleshoots visual effects for both quality and performance.
Job Requirements
- 6+ years game VFX experience with at least 3 years as Lead VFX Artist with at least one title shipped in the lead role.
- Proven excellent leadership skills. Able to communicate effectively verbally and visually.
- Demonstrated ability to create beautiful VFX for games, film/tv, or a combination of both.
- Strong traditional painting skills, ability to combine hand-crafted art sensibility with technical skills in creating unique VFX.
- Extensive experience with Unreal Engine (Niagara) and Maya
- Strong technical proficiency in VFX content creation tools such as Houdini/Fume FX/Maya fluids etc
- Able to maintain a balance between visual quality and performance requirements for AAA real-time games.
- Strong understanding of innovative real-time VFX techniques and pipeline.
- Positive collaborative ability and a desire to bring new ideas to the team.
