Lead Unity Game Software Engineer

Summary

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for a small team of software engineers building features for a Unity based mobile phone game.
• Work with engineers, designers, artists, QA, product owners and producers to develop high quality game features for EverMerge.
• Set coding standards to maintain high game stability and high code quality.
• Accurately estimate and prioritize development timeframes so delivery date of new features is predictable.
• Interface with the external game development studio and understand their processes, build systems and methodologies.
• Effectively communicate with technical and non-technical parties to ensure understanding of priorities, services, features, and business requirements.

Additional Responsibilities

• Become familiar with EverMerge codebase in order to not only implement new game features, but also offer technical advice or help troubleshoot issues.
• Learn Big Fish Games technical products, services, and best practices and know how to use them in our games.
• Be flexible in order to adapt to the shifting priorities that come from
• working with the complexities of live game operations.
• Proactively find solutions for problems and obstacles. Help improve our processes and documentation.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in a tech lead role, including defining priorities and maintaining schedules for a group of engineers.
• Senior level software engineering experience.
• 5+ years of Unity engine experience, including building mobile game clients with both Xcode and Android Studio.
• Proficiency in developing object-oriented software, with deep experience in C#.
• Know how to profile and optimize code for performance.
• Capability to isolate and fix difficult bugs.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both spoken and written.
• A passion and ability to understand complex technical systems and how to leverage them.
• Experience estimating effort and establishing timelines for projects as well as communicating associated risk.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with server-side development.
• An understanding of server systems and how they interact with games.
• Experience shipping a game on iOS and Android.
