Survios currently has an opening for a talented Lead Technical Artist working with Unreal Engine 5 to build industry-leading VR games. We are looking for an individual who can provide technical art leadership for the project, guide and mentor the technical artists, and be a hands-on individual contributor. The ideal candidate has broad technical art experience, is a creative problem solver, and enjoys a mix of leadership and individual contribution. There is an emphasis in working with the broader team (including Designers, Artists, Animators, and Engineers) to build the best technology and games possible.
Responsibilities:
- Identify, analyze, implement, and support the unique technical art requirements of the project to deliver the desired aesthetic and performance targets.
- Identify, manage, and resolve technical art issues in a broad range of areas, including: character, environment, tools/scripting, procedural/automation, shaders, lighting, VFX, rendering, physics.
- Help create and enforce technical, performance, scalability, and budget standards for all art within the project.
- Encourage artists compliance with established art norms, best practice, and processes across all art disciplines, with a focus on aesthetics, performance, and standardization.
- Develop and improve techniques and processes to improve and optimize artist workflows.
- Work closely with the lead artist and project leadership to ensure the product vision is realized in the game.
- Daily communication with all disciplines to ensure the technical artists remain in alignment with the project's goals.
- Help build and manage workflows to support outsourcing efforts.
- Manage and organize technical art documentation.
- Lead, mentor, and review the work of other technical artists.
Requirements:
- Accomplished technical artist with 2+ years in a leadership role.
- 2+ shipped titles on console, PC, or VR.
- Significant experience in Unreal Engine 4 or 5.
- Extensive understanding of modern 3D game engines, and the technology behind them.
- Extensive knowledge and experience in optimizing art for tight memory and performance constraints.
- Experience and comfort in understanding and leveraging proprietary tools and technology.
- Must be familiar with industry standard 3D software, including Maya, 3DMax, Zbrush, Substance Designer/Painter, Houdini, etc. (We are an Unreal/Maya studio)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Experience planning and estimating technical art work.
- Effective collaborator with contributors, leads, and directors from all disciplines.
What we’d love to see:
- Previous work in VR and/or a passion for VR.
- Experience optimizing for older consoles, VR platforms, or mobile devices.

Base salary range between $135,000 USD - $174,000 USD ( Base salary range for applicants located within the United States )
