OVERVIEW

As the Lead Technical Artist you will have a critical role to play in creating, shaping and directing our internal technology , solving problems and being a force multiplier for our artists to deliver the highest quality . Working with our cutting edge bespoke engine offers a unique opportunity to use your creative and technical skill to truly define a next-gen experience and allow us to push the boundaries of possibility.
You will work closely with the Art Director and Lead Artist and contribute to shaping the vision for technical art in a truly collaborative environment .
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Guide the technical art team, overseeing shader development, graphics technology , tooling and performance . Setting a bar for both excellence , and the studio’s reputation for cutting edge game development.
- Solve issues with a creative and technical mindset .
- Bridge the art and tech teams and foster clear communication between the disciplines.
- Identify industry trends and improvements to workflow and efficiency such as modular building techniques and proceduralism.
- Maintain areas of the project’s direction and development documentation , with an ability to convey the abstract and sophisticated ideas, aesthetics, and technical areas of your discipline.
- Share your passion and knowledge of technical art to support , mentor and build the tech art team and encourage individual’s growth .
- Work closely with art leadership and production to keep tech art on schedule and scope (both in terms of style, quality, and delivery) for all studio productions.
- Collaborate with Art Management to build, source and extend our team with global AAA talent. Helping support a nd train our external partners as well as reviewing and ensuring ultimate quality.
SKILLS
- You have excellent industry experience working within technical art on published AAA titles . Working as ‘lead’ on at least one title.
- You have good knowledge of 3D packages (Maya, Houdini, Max, etc.).
- You have experience with shader construction, ideally using both graph networks and hand coding.
- Identifying bottlenecks and where efficiency improvements within the art team’s work can be made.
- You have p roficient p roblem-solving skills and experience for technically challenging tasks.
- You are committed to self-development of managerial skills, overseeing the work of other team members and mentoring and developing junior staff.
- You have the ability to c ollaborate and communicate on creative & technical ideas at all levels within a multidisciplinary team.
- You are an excellent planner and very organised . You can arbitrate sensitively between creative desires and production requirements.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience developing technical art including shaders , tools and optimisation for AAA games , with at least three published titles.
- Proven experience in defining and managing the technical and budgetary requirements for an art team , delivering on specification and to deadline.
- Experience managing an art team.
