Software Engineering Manager, System Capabilities

The opportunity

Unity is the ubiquitous 3D engine that runs real-time content anywhere. We serve interactive content creators by making Unity the best way to get real-time content on any device. Our Runtime Capabilities team contribute to this vision by delivering cross-platform solutions that allow creators to take advantage of similar features on any device without the need to know platform-specific details. This will ensure that similar features can be accessed with a single, unified library and API that "just works", no matter the device.

To achieve this mission, we are looking for a manager with experience crafting and developing software libraries to lead the Runtime Capabilities team. A successful leader in this role will be an excellent communicator, active listener and demonstrate the ability to build relationships across teams and from a diverse set of backgrounds.

What you'll be doing

• Leading a team of engineers with varying levels of experience, defining clear goals and accountability for individuals, as well as providing team members with growth opportunities and new challenges
• Work with product managers, internal teams and customers to define the capabilities of most value to our users and drive design and implementation of the capabilities to completion
• Advocate for and guide the unification of disparate platform implementations from across Unity into simple abstractions across the Platforms organisation and all of Unity

What we're looking for

• Experience leading small to medium-sized teams working with a large and complex code base
• Empathy for the unique challenges game developers face in building and maintaining rich experiences over multiple platforms
• Ability to support and mentor team members, building relationships of trust by example
• Experience leading cross-team collaborative projects from initiation to completion

You might also have

• Development experience with game consoles, mobile or desktop platforms
• Experience shipping cross-platform titles that also use platform-specific features when appropriate
• Experience with API design and asynchronous coding paradigms
