Job Description

Your role
The Visual Effects Artist implements, under supervision, video game special effects in accordance with a project’s artistic direction and production deadlines. He/she has strong artistic skills, and an understanding of the technical constraints on the target platforms.

Visual Art:
• Using a variety of particle systems, create all aspects of special effects artwork:
o Particle system templates and animation
o Particle textures
o Particle models (as necessary)
o Lighting

• Good knowledge of in-game special effects, including:
o Smoke
o Explosions
o Fire
o Weather
o Atmospherics
o Water
o Light/Energy
o Damage
o Full screen filters
o Post processing

What you will do
• Coming with creative ideas and solutions to the assigned tasks and proactively communicate task status to your peers, customers, and Leads.
• Correct defects discovered by QC or your customers in a timely fashion.
• Work within the technical limitations of a variety of game engines.
• Collaborate with Graphics Technical Artist to ensure necessary technology/features are present in order to reach the visual benchmarks.
• Share artistic knowledge with Artists, support them when needed.

Qualifications

What you should be equipped with:
• Graduated with a 4-year bachelor’s degree.

• A minimum of 5+ years creating real-time special FX for video games.
• Experience with crafting consistently brilliant, eye-catching, real-time FX using Photoshop, Max, and in-game FX systems.
• Able to paint stylized FX textures from scratch, matching an established style.
• Proficient with 3D graphics, particle systems, physics, ribbons, etc.
• Working knowledge of rendering engines.
• Solid game design awareness and an exceptional game design-oriented collaborator.
• Self-driven, and an excellent communicator.

• Work with art lead artist and other leaders to support the game vision, provide/receive feedback, and improve by participating in regular team events such as reviews and scrums, with the goal of creating high-quality VFX.

Additional Information

Your bonus points:
• Good understanding of art fundamentals: color theory, lighting, shape, composition, etc.
• Must be creative and be able to adapt to a variety of art styles;
• Good organizational and analytical skills, and able to solve problems.
• Passion for creating and playing games, regardless of platform or genre.
• Able to work under pressure and take constructive criticism.
• Good communication skills. English ability a plus.
• Scripting skills (Max Script, Python, HLSL) a plus.
