Our Valencia studio is seeking an experienced Lead artist to join our team. This position will require working closely with other artists within the 2K Valencia studio, as well as animators, designers, and engineers to make visually striking assets and environments for several 2K studios. We’re looking for someone who’s motivated and passionate about making high quality games. We’re constantly challenging ourselves to push the boundaries and looking for someone who is up for that challenge as well!

At 2K Valencia we are currently looking for a Lead Artist who is ready for the challenge of leading a team of artists in AAA projects:

Key Responsibilities:

• Work with (Art)-Directors, other Lead Artists, Project Managers and Prop-/Environment Teams to create high quality game assets and environments, that are consistent with the game’s visual target and desired platform.
• Being able to work with Animators, Designers, Engineers and possible other departments, to ensure that the created artwork follow specifications and functionality requirements.
• Maintain direct contact with Project Managers internally, as well as other external 2K Leads, Directors and external Project Managers in other 2K Studios to plan resources and solve any possible doubts.
• Manage responsibilities and proactively report blockers or request feedback.
• Creatively and technically maintain the quality standard for the project and feel confident to develop your own skills and mentor these of the team around you.
• Track progress, manage time, and hit deadlines to stay on track with set schedules and tasks.
• Create specification sheets and art briefs, generate estimations for scheduling, monitor quality, review deliverables, providing concise feedback and implementing the final result.
• Ensure that assets and artwork is optimized in regard to performance and best practices for the desired target platforms, while retaining the artistic integrity.
• Self-regulate your workload while completing time sensitive requests & resolve any issues that arise.
• Be proactive and communicate dependency issues to the Project Manager before they happen.
• Fully understand the project pipeline / game engine and clearly report improvements & possible issues.

Who Will Be a Great Fit:

• Portfolio demonstrating 4+ years of experience in the AAA gaming industry as Lead Artist or similar role.
• Credited in at least 1 published AAA game title on current gen/ next gen platforms.
• Proficiency in creation of high-quality art assets using Maya/3ds Max/ Blender, Zbrush, Photoshop and Substance Painter.
• Thorough understanding of the process of baking and authoring textures for physical based rendering (PBR), as well as Face weighted based art pipelines.
• Strong understanding and experience with creating physically based materials.
• Strong technical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and work efficiently within a game pipeline.
• Able to autonomously follow guidelines and execute complex tasks within given timeframe.
• Able to accurately and efficiently perform task breakdowns and production estimates when required.
• Able to detect potential ways to improve workflows and productivity, as well as help to raise the quality bar if needed.
• Able to designate tasks to artists within the team, with the most suitable skillset for the task at hand.
• Fully understand the project pipeline / game engine and clearly report improvements & possible issues.
• Strong work ethic with exceptional communication skills.
• Strong motivational and tutoring skills.
• Needs to be a Dynamic, flexible and problem-solving person.
• Fluent English both speech and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with asset tracking tools like Perforce, JIRA, and Shotgun
• Experience reviewing and providing feedback to artists and/or leading a team of Prop-/Environment- Artists
• Passion for video game development
