Security Engineering Manager, Defence

To meet our customer needs, our software needs to be available to them. And it’s our work that makes that possible: - from deployment architectures that can exploit the cloud, but run on physical hardware if needed - through security patterns that can comply with the more stringent requirements, but don’t slow developers - to monitoring and operational tools that support managing the platform.
The Security Engineering team is responsible for providing guidance in security best practices, reviewing and implementing solutions to unlock ways of working that are efficient and secure.
A fundamental part of our team is to research and share in-depth security knowledge of products, libraries, and services we base our product on, enabling engineering teams to make the correct decisions as they innovate and create the future of simulated worlds for defense.
Due to the nature of this role, you will be expected to meet requirements associated with obtaining UK security vetting clearance; including an unbroken residency in the UK for the previous 5 years. If you think that this might be an issue for you, please let us know.
Areas of Impact
- You will lead a team of security engineering professionals responsible for planning, design, implementation, attack mitigation, and ongoing support of security systems of high complexity to fulfill the business needs.
- You will work with other Cyber Security teams to effectively and efficiently manage protections. In doing so work closely with the research team, undertake research of threat vectors, and provide mitigation strategies.
- You will work with stakeholders, mentoring and providing technical guidance on Application and Cloud security.
- You will help to shape the security posture and practices as well as contributing to the software design process, reviewing code and making individual contributions where possible.
- You will grow a team of successful engineers through collaborative development planning, coaching, and empowerment through strategic goals.
- You will proactively develop and promote top performers and will play a key role in performance , promotion and compensation reviews.
- You will provide recommendations to the management team to increase the effectiveness of organization and technology solutions.
- You will respond to and assist with due diligence and internal/external security audit requests.
- You will lean on your experience securing cloud technologies, containerized applications, CI/CD pipelines, and microservices.
- You will bring an understanding and mindset of “thinking like an attacker” to add another perspective to how our environments are secured
We'd love to hear from you if you identify with the following:
- Previous experience and hands-on expertise in information security, Security Engineering, and/or security consulting
- Experience in a Leadership role, which includes managing security experts
- Demonstrable history of deploying complex Iaas, PaaS or SaaS software to customers with complex security requirements.
- You have worked on a range of infrastructure or platform projects and are experienced with orchestration frameworks like Kubernetes.
- Understanding of information security, threats, and related security controls.
- Prior working knowledge on Application, web, and cloud security.
- Understanding of OWASP Top10, Treacherous 12 and, ATT&CK frameworks.
- A dynamic leader who has directly managed a team of highly competent engineers in the fast-paced work environment
- Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience demonstrating strong leadership, self-motivation, and accountability
- Experience in leading complex projects cross-functionally and globally
- We work internally with GCP, so experience here will be excellent, but we’re also interested in AWS, Azure and on-premises skills.
