Job Description
Modeling, test and analysis of III-V and II-VI semiconductor materials and the fabrication processes for custom light-emitting diodes and lasers. Matching unique device structures and fab processes to desired physical optics requirements for custom spatial emission and output wavelength profiles. Reviewing process for yield and high-volume manufacturing compatibility. Designing DOE experiments with outside development partners. Collecting evaluation test data on custom components and modules
Responsibilities
- Create detailed technical specifications document for the custom light emitting diodes and/or lasers
- Creating models of novel 3D photonic bandgap structures, in collaboration with other staff members
- Review semiconductor fabrication processes for custom light sources and analyze issues
- Develop detailed evaluation test plans for new light sources and modules
- Lead evaluation tests on prototype samples and prepare reports
- Develop new concepts around custom light sources and how they match the viewing optics assembly of the Magic Leap viewing optics assembly
Qualifications
- 3-10 years of experience designing and developing custom semiconductor light sources such as LEDs, micro-LEDs, lasers, etc
- Deep understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes and how they are applied to the development of III-V and II-VI light sources
- Prior experience with physical optics experiments and modeling, as applied to semiconductor light sources
- Familiar with one of the major ray-trace CAD software packages (Zemax, Code V, FRED, etc)
- Experience rapidly prototyping proof-of-concept test beds for various new light sources and associated modules
- Knowledge of semiconductor metrology tools and their application to III-V and II-VI light sources
- A working knowledge of statistics for data characterization
- Experience with LabView, MATLAB, or similar laboratory software
