Lead Lighting Artist

Overview
MachineGames is strengthening its team and we are now looking for a Lead Lighting Artist to join us and help bring our projects to new levels!
We are looking for somebody that thrives in a leadership position and is keen to support not only their own team but also help the studio bring our vision to life with their knowledge and skillset! In this role you will be the lead for our amazing lighting team and you will with the help of our Art Director & Creative Director help push the boundaries for what is possible in bringing our projects to life.
We believe you as a person are down to earth, friendly and has preferrably previous experience in a leadership role.
Our studio is located in central Uppsala, Sweden which is a small and vibrant city 40 minutes north of Stockholm with a historical heritage reaching back to pre-medieval times.
This is a permanent position starting as soon as possible. We will support your relocation and/or application for work permit if you have a non-EU passport and/or are not currently residing in Sweden.

Responsibilities
- Assist the Art Director in executing the visual vision in relation to lighting for the project and assume creative ownership when delegated by Art Director.
- Lead and drive lighting initiatives within the lighting team and collaborate with other departments to develop and implement high quality and performant content.
- Participate in developing standards and techniques for both gameplay and cinematic lighting.
- Troubleshoot creative and technical issues related to lighting as they arise. Debug and fix lighting bugs and communicate/document solutions.
- Lighting reviews
- Ensure high quality lighting is made correctly, visually and technically.
- Own and define ways to perform WIP reviews and signoff.
- Standards
- Responsible for ensuring art pipelines and workflow processes are clearly defined and followed for all lighting work.
- Create, communicate, and follow up on technical standards in collaboration with the programmer and technical leads.
- R&D
- Participate in developing standards and techniques for both gameplay and cinematic lighting.
- Investigate new industry technology and trends to improve the project's visual quality and efficiency.
- Assist with look development.
- Act as the primary point of contact for outsourcing/contracted lighting artists.
Qualifications
- Have extensive experience from a leading role in a AAA game development studio.
- Have participated in and led (at least some pieces of) a whole AAA game development cycle.
- Have extensive experience within the field of lighting and colour theory.
- In-depth knowledge of colour grading, HDR, and other post process effects
- Expert skills within applicable software, procedures, and methodology.
- Show a track record of successfully leading others.
- Show a track record of exploring new trends and ideas in your area and applying them to work.
- Great experience with photo realistic lighting.
- Excellent knowledge of PBR materials.
