Lead Gameplay Technical Animator

Larian is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Gameplay Technical Animator, with a proven track record of managing a team. In this position, you are expected to lead a team of gameplay tech-animators from all levels and backgrounds and help them achieve their maximum potential, while working together with the Technical Animation Director as a gatekeeper of quality for all systems and features implemented in the game. It is important that you have good communication skills and you are able to work collaboratively with other departments.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor and coach the team of gameplay technical animators and help them progress in their development
- Assist in the recruitment efforts for gameplay tech-animators of all levels
- Nurture a healthy working environment for the team, in alignment with the company values
- Delegate work responsibly across team members of all skill levels
- Review your team’s work and offer creative/technical feedback when needed
- Proactively identify issues in all gameplay tech-animation related pipelines and coordinate with all relevant departments to have those issues resolved in a timely manner
- Ensure that the guidelines set by the Technical Animation Director are respected throughout the production
- Research and stay up-to-date to the latest developments in animation systems
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by management
Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in video game development, with a minimum of 2 in a leadership position
- Team oriented and a strong desire for collaborative participation in a team-based pipeline across different geographic locations
- Able to take and give direction and feedback, adapt to changes and thrive under the pressure of tight deadlines
- Strong and practical understanding of animation node graphs, IK, animation trees and similar technologies
- Good animation skills and understanding of animation principles
- Experience working with high-fidelity motion capture
- Able to document and explain their work clearly and concisely
- Enthusiastic, methodical and organized approach to work with high quality standards
- Sense of initiative, originality and resourcefulness in problem solving
- Good written and verbal communication skills (English is mandatory)
