Skeleton Key is a new game development studio and division of Wizards of the Coast. We are a group of industry veterans who are guided by the belief that empowering our teams and providing the proper time, tools, and support we can foster a creative culture where everyone can do their best work.
Our new studio will be located in Austin, TX, and we are looking for a passionate and dedicated Principal Engineer to join us and drive the game technology and technical direction for this project.
In this role, you will be a key engineering leader, and partner with leaders of all subject areas to deliver game systems that create a world-class player experience. We’re looking for someone who believes game quality and performance are critical to success and has a broad range of experience shipping AAA titles. In your pursuit of building high-quality and adaptable systems and you will level up the engineering team through mentorship and collaboration. The Principal Engineer will work with the Technical Director and to ensure a successful launch of our projects.
What You'll Do:
- Be a Technical Leader and set the standard on technical direction and the overall engineering department.
- Be a strong voice in crafting the long-term technical roadmap for major engineering systems, tech debt, performance and innovations.
- Proactively identify issues and fix difficult problems as an individual contributor.
- Help build out strong standard methodologies and performance metrics, while seeking continual improvement of the engineering organization.
What You'll Bring:
- Expert Level Unreal and C++ Experience.
- Proven prior experience with Architecture/System Design.
- Passion for directly implementing code changes, or partnering with teams to improve processes and make sure changes are implemented.
- Experience working on multiple AAA games at all phases of development.
- Experience working with large code bases and long range technical planning.
- Mentor team members as needed to increase their capabilities and efficiency.
- Experience with giving and receiving feedback.
- Experience multi-tasking and adapting easily to change.
- Passion for making and playing games.
- Enthusiastic, positive, team-oriented; must have the ability to interact and collaborate with all departments and teams.
- Self-sufficient and self-motivated, can perform duties independently.
